Sean Tuohy Boldly Denies Oher’s Claims

Michael Oher assumed the conservatorship entailed that he had joined the family; Sean retorted that they could not adopt him at 18, hence the need to sign the conservatorship.

“Michael was obviously living with us for a long time, and the NCAA didn’t like that,” Tuohy added. “They said the only way Michael could go to Ole Miss was if he was actually part of the family. I sat Michael down and told him, ‘If you’re planning to go to Ole Miss — or even considering Ole Miss — we think you have to be part of the family. This would do that, legally.’

After reading a couple articles this seems possible that it could be an awkward "family matter" that's been simmering with some resentment for awhile and is now being played out in public. Unless I'm understanding wrong, he and the Tuohys treated each other as family for the past 20 years, and only very recently did he find out that the conservatorship wasn't what he thought it was, and that the family may have made a bunch of money off of that movie that portrayed him as a dimwit.

To be clear, I'd be pissed as hell too, it's just strange that the family is claiming that they never made money off of him and the conservatorship was all above board. Seems like we'll find out the truth soon enough. If Oher's version of events is true, that family is gross and he's right to leave them behind. If it's a weird family misunderstanding, it's sad and I hope they can sort it out with some privacy.

The Tuohy's can spin the story anyway they want, but the bottom line is if Oher truly didn't know of the conservatorship until Feb of 2023 when he thought he was adopted the whole time, that's some lowball shady shit and just proves the Tuohy's saw him primarily as an investment opportunity, or at the very least, helping their alma mater get a Left Tackle. IF the Tuohy's didn't have ulterior motives then they should have told Oher back when he was a teenager of the conservatorship status.

Seems like a pretty brilliant way to gin up a sequel. Family fractured, then reunited, ironically, by their mutual love of a blind shelter dog that they train to win Best in Show.

It's crazy how much you and i always agree.

Michael is probably broke. They don’t need the money. The guy sold his company for $200 million. Even the author of the blind side said all got an equal share of the royalties.

This is crazy... Dude literally states in his own book, "I Beat the Odds":

It kind of felt like a formality, as I'd been a part of the family for more than a year at that point. Since I was already over the age of eighteen and considered an adult by the state of Tennessee, Sean and Leigh Anne would be named as my 'legal conservators’.

Such a strange situation. The only thing that makes sense in my mind is if he recently found out they secretly made a ton of money off of that movie and it retroactively made the whole thing feel like a sham. I’m sure we’ll all find out soon enough.

If he was smart he would play nice and just mooch off his parents like every other kid does.
