I remember my dad saying he was at the casino in Cockeye and ran into some of Paul’s friends from high school. They said the guy was an airhead but a good guy. I always thought he was a solid player and didn’t deserve a lot of the shit he got. He could definitely make the list of ex Huskers who got shit on by Husker fans. I still have Lord is my top guy.

I loved Gomes. Whenever we needed a play he seemed to come out of nowhere. He had crazy good hands too. Surprised he didn't make it in the NFL.

Besides being a talented defense, they were super aggressive in tackling, coverage, and played through the ball.

That aggressive nature seemed to tail off in the waning Bo years. Not only were they out-schemed, most the defense lacked that mentality.

That 99 defense is grossly underrated by most fans. Its arguably the best defense that McBride ever fielded.

99 is very salty. The 94, 95 and 97 squads were no joke as well.

I'd say it is one of the better defenses NU fielded that didn't result in a national title. '99, '93, and '84 all were title worthy.
