For enforcement you would use the "basic spot" which is spot of the fumble.

Before anyone says it, yes I know that it didn’t lose us a game.

But this no call changed the game entirely. You go from down 8 with the ball at the 30(?) to having to get another defensive stop.

Nebraska at that point needed a quick stop on their first possession of the half and something positive to happen on the ensuing possession. They got the stop. Call the penalty and Nebraska has very attractive field position for its first drive.

Absolutely atrocious officiating that’s simply too common in this conference.

Someone needs to be held to account. I’m sure we’ll get an “I’m sorry” from the big ten office when we send this clip in. Same with the two DPIs in the end zone in the first half.

Maybe they thought we grabbed the mask pulling it down? I still think we got shafted. Similar one yesterday during Wisconsin Minnesota that didn’t get called too, turnover and touchdown. On kekahana

Edit: on rewatch. It’s hard to stomach that Barney fumbled three times on two punt attempts, two of which were pretty much entirely on him being untouched. That play could have easily led to 7 instead of 2.

Still not a Tier 1 game. That's why the game drew the 3rd string CBS crew. Those guys call Mountain West games.

I'm not saying there is a viable excuse, but I've watched enough Big Ten games to know they weren't conducting the same due diligence.

I guarantee the dudes working the NY office on Saturday for Ohio State Michigan and Oregon vs USC were not the same people in there on Friday.

Keep in mind the NY review team doesn't make the final decision. It's still in the hand of the white hat. But their job is to send it down to the field. Its incredible how that never happened.

The league moved all reviews out of stadiums a few years ago because programs like Northwestern, Rutgers, and Maryland complained that the programs with larger average attendance were "swaying" the in stadium replay official too much.

Ironically, it seems like it's led to less accountability.

There would still be a fumble and play would continue until dead. Hypothetical if Nebraska picks up the fumble in end zone and runs it back +15 from spot of foul, the targeting would be declined.

I haven't seen that angle where Barney pulls facemask. That changes my opinion of targeting entirely if that happened.

I refereed soccer for a long time. I rarely watch anymore. But when they go to VAR they’ll every once in awhile broadcast the conversation that is happening to determine what the call should be.

I saw that the ACC did this with the FSU-VA game earlier this year as well and I appreciated it bigly.

I also think that the review Booth should not know the original call. Just ask them to determine if this is targeting or not and have no knowledge of whether or not it was originally called targeting. Or whatever the review is about.


As for "call stands" situations they can just come back with unable to determine for certain.

Yeah, cliffs is basically any time a team commits a penalty, anything good that happens for them after that point can be negated. Anything bad that happens for them after that point can usually stand.

No, you’d never decline a targeting for any reason. If that happened NU would still get the 15 yards tacked back on.

This is also not even possible as a team can’t advance their own fumble, NU is the reason for that rule.

You can absolutely advance your own fumble expect for 4th down, before change of possession, the fumbler is on the only offensive player that can advance a fumble. Which this case doesn't apply.
