A friend threw a small Dinner Party on Christmas. George Karl, former Nuggets, Bucks, Seattle, Sacramento Coach, was there. Sat around and talked hoops with him most of the afternoon. Man he has some stories. None of the other guests were into basketball, heck some didn't even know who he was. We just sat there drinking and watching the Christmas NBA games. Also talked a little golf.

I asked him about his thoughts on Fred Hoiberg. He thinks Fred is a great coach and is better off in the college game than the NBA. Said basically you have to be a bit of a prick in the NBA to coach some of those Diva's and that really wasn't Fred's personality. But he said that was why he lasted so long, because he was a bit of a prick to the players when they needed it. Hard to control the over the top NBA personalities when you are more even keel and mild mannered like Fred. George felt Fred was made for the college game and was a great teacher of the game of basketball. He thought Fred would do really great things at Nebraska.

I always thought the job of an NBA coach was to massage the players egos.
