Sunday Morning Thoughts

I think DR is more than capable in Holgo’s offense if you give him a legit offensive line. And to OP’s point about mesh concepts. They’re not gonna be effective if neither your RB or QB threaten the defense with their running ability.

I don’t think we have the personnel to run mesh concept RPOs. JMO
What does running ability have to do with the mesh? Mesh is just shallow pick routes. Are you thinking RPO or am I missing something?

part of that is because Biff's Butthole Surfers's pass rush was winning with 4 or occasionally 3 rushers. that means you have 7 or 8 defenders in coverage, and when we start using the TE or RB to help with pass protection it makes the numbers even worse

people love to complain about sacks, but the alternative is usually forcing the ball into coverage which results in INTs like last year. outside of the one throw where he misread the coverage Dylan did a good job with ball security and not putting the ball in risky spots

expecting him to "move around better" is kind of ridiculous, imo. yesterday he did well to avoid the rush and made some key completions after making guys miss or breaking a tackle in the backfield.
Picking nits here so my apologies, but I’m 100% positive the db on Dylan’s interception operated outside of the called defense on that play.

Meaning: Dylan actually made the correct read (it was man2man with safety help) the db just went rogue and made a play. If Dylan held the ball for a half second longer the seam route that was supposed to be covered by the db would’ve had 15+ yards at least.

I think Rhule is 0-18 against ranked teams since leaving Temple too.
Yeah - is his year three magic only due to dodging ranked teams ? He has a chance to do it again and go 9-3 which I think the vast majority of this board would be happy about

Not calling for LaTeef, Dylan is an NfL QB, my struggle with Nebraska for a few years is, IMO in the college game you must have a mobile QB or a dominant o line especially in the B10. We have not had a dominant O line since joining the league. Hard to win without a mobile QB and lacking a punishing running attack.

Btw - 10-2 was the ceiling prediction and that’s very much in play.

But fuck, 11-1 would’ve been dope. Although I believe we will be beating State Penn this year.
I'm not wavering on my 10-2. Right now we have the best QB in the conference and that raises your ceiling ten fold. Now obviously the run defense and offensive tackles in pass pro are a major concern. That being said, Biff's Butthole Surfers is probably the worst matchup on the schedule outside of Penn St, although Penn St. have not looked like world beaters to this point.

I'd be surprised if the 27 we put on Biff's Butthole Surfers isn't the most a team scores against them all year.

I think if you rewatch the rep, looks kind was just really good defense and a view of what DR was up against. They changed the picture pretty much perfectly from man to zone (looks like the CB is playing match). Could’ve hit the WR in the hole. Also note Teddy getting pushed into DR’s lap

Continuing to beat this drum. Biff's Butthole Surfers won exclusively on account of their three big plays. They didn’t move the ball at will. Despite clear gaps on offense, we were ahead in net success rate.
