For a younger guy, I always wondered if the Sal is dead chant was real or not? I can see shitty fans who have admitted to batteries, piss bags etc to want to project so they always bring this up.

My old man was around then & he has claimed Saul is dead sounds a lot like Go Big Red & I wouldn’t be surprised if McCartney stirred up bs to create some extra motivation. So is there any posters familiar with those games to confirm if it’s legit?

Highly exaggerated as a historical event. It may have happened, but CU fan would have you believe it was an entire stadium chanting it, we had shirts and hats adorned with the slogan, etc. I went to the 1990, 1992, and 1994 games and didn't hear or see it.

CU fan uses it to grasp for some level of moral superiority.

I think the reason the chant was a thing was because Coach McC used Sals death to motivate the team. Weird stuff like keeping a seat for him on the plane (uniform on seat), his locker was a shrine, etc. Meanwhile everyone knew he had to be pissed he got his daughter knocked up.
