Rural Alaska depends on public radio stations which happens to be affiliated with NPR. Like a lot of national things, on the local level they can be quite good or useful but there are diminishing returns as you move up the chain. The local radio station is pretty much the only source of news that we have for an area around the size of Ohio. There is a radio station in Chevak but it is entirely in Yungtan which is the Yupik language. Fun story, my JV did a basketball tournament out there. I had a girlfriend tune in to the radio for the game only for her not to understand anything going on.
