As of today we are still estimated to be at 87 scholarships. This means that at some point in the near future we need 2 guys to leave. (Or do we?)

Some thoughts:

Does Nouredin count against the numbers? That would put us at 86 of his suspension also suspends his scholarship. In all honesty I have no idea how the rules work in this kind of situation. He was also a former walk on that was awarded a scholarship. Maybe it just isn't renewed?

Yant was also a former walk on that was awarded a scholarship. In some interview at some point in the past a coach (not sure which one) mentioned something about not all schollies being renewed automatically. If Yant and Nouredin weren't renewed then that would put us at the magic number 85. I don't think they would do that to Yant though.

Speculation:

NPG is probably number 1 on the speculation list because he never gets mentioned by coaches in interviews. He was recruited over in multiple ways. The DB room is probably carrying too many schollies as is. His girl transferred. His Instagram is weird. I think he is a high possibility.

Haarberg. Speaking of a guy who doesn't get mentioned any more. At this point his best case scenario is 4th on the depth chart and is probably actually 5th as even Masker might get the nod before him.

Javin Wright was a safe bet before but now has been getting some media run and is a kind of feel good story. I still think it is possible for his medical condition to show up again and then that will be that but right now he's trending towards staying.

Shawn Hardy seems to be a ghost. While still young it is never good to not be mentioned at all, no pics, no media play and no hype.

The only thing we've heard about Seth Malcom is that he is having a slow time adjusting from 8 man football. This to me means he is in the transfer conversation.

Alex Conn, Michael Lynn, Brant Banks, Garrett Snodgrass and Tamon Lynum all seem to have enough reasons to be possibilities as well.

What do you all think?

Tamon got in a picture this week so it can’t be him.

As far as getting to 85 we’ve heard multiple times now it’s going to happen and we likely won’t know how.

Good convo. What’s next?

I doubt Haarberg transfers anytime soon. I bet he sticks around for a little longer
I pretty much agree that he won't leave now. He doesn't have any experience to speak of and still needs to learn. Schools looking for QBs in the portal are looking for a guy to step in and play not a project to adopt. Now Logan Smothers OTOH probably could transfer out and go someplace to start right away. But now it might be too late for a QB this season.

I would look at the RB and WR room. Stepp leaving helped reduce the clutter.

We could lose a depth guy at either spot and not feel it because the depth is going to be very solid at both spots, barring unforeseen injuries.

The coaches have said a couple times that they are at 85, which to me points to a couple walk on scholarships not being renewed. As to your players:

NPG is gonna be around at least for this year it seems. Wouldn't surprise me if he moves on after the season though unless he sees a drastic change.

Haarberg being speculated about is always so weird to me. Hes hardly even been here a year yet, was a known project coming in and he's a Nebraska kid. Minus the Nebraska part, same story for Malcolm and Hardy.

Javin is back so he's off the list.

The rest I can agree with for the most part.

We’re still early in Frost’s tenure…. A little young, but getting old real quick. Definitely need to give Frost a couple more years to get “his guys” in and developed. We’ll be an older, more established program. It’s a process and certainly see positive signs coming up in years 6, 7 & 8.

Year 10 is really when I think it’s fair to judge Frost.

FWIW I remember reading on On3 about them being at 85 already. They were saying something along the lines of - On the coach's board they were already at 85 even though they were still showing 87 on their (On3) board and the coaches had worked the numbers somehow to get to 85 without losing any more players. If I had to guess it sounds like a couple of the walk-ons didn't get scholarships renewed? Or with these boys we can expect an NCAA investigation for trying to manipulate the 85-scholarship rule somehow.

Or we are using NIL

The candidates are

Reimer
Hixson
Yant
Nouredin
Martin

Those are the guys I can remember that were walk-ons that were put on scholarship. Maybe they worked it with NIL for two of them to get school paid for that way.

Good points on the NIL. probably going to see more of this now when the numbers start to get tight for all the teams.

I've been told Smothers is sticking around because his dad respects the hell out of Mark Whipple the offensive football coach.

In the TT Sip said it looks like Michael Lynn is heading toward a possible medical scholarship.
