I didn't take it as such. I'm betting the family is holding on to some last minutes of privacy before putting it out there. It's going to be a big deal with all the Husker fans that have been rooting for him for so long.

Edit to add: if that is the case, it may not be the worst thing to make this thread disappear for a while too. I just feel awful for the family.

For a regular person, one of the harder things about having a family member with cancer is feeling the weight of keeping everyone around you up to date on the situation. Can't imagine what it feels like to feel responsible to share your personal tragedy with a whole world of people you don't know.

Yeah I don’t see a way for me to delete the thread but I would 100% support that decision.

I would never purposely want to hurt a family in a moment of terrible grief.

I know as recently as a week ago things were looking very bleak for him. Was praying for him to pull through but when it spreads like that it’s hard to do much. Sounds like he went in for a scan not very long ago and it was in quite a few spots

I could be totally wrong and it's definitely not my place, but I would suspect if for some reason they happened on this, it would be good to know that so many people care.

I would imagine their goal in not saying anything yet is to be able to talk about it on their own schedule, should they want to talk about it at all.

First and foremost our thoughts should be with Jacks family and friends who knew him personally. Losing someone you care about at such a young age sucks something fierce. It was nice they at least got to have one last Christmas together. We lost my uncle about 10 years ago and we got to have him around for one last Christmas and it helps just a little in those tough times to be able to know they were there for the one final Christmas. Hopefully they can hold onto that memory.
For the rest of us in husker nation this could be a tough year first losing Jack, then from the last few weeks little snippets of news it sounds like Greg Sharpe’s time is short, and finally it doesn’t sound good for Tom and Nancy.

It’s being reported on the r/Huskers over on Reddit that Jack Hoffman has passed.

I haven’t seen any confirmation yet but if this true this is the biggest off the field gut punch the program has faced in a while.

So sad. Damn
