There has just been such a track record built up and earned around here that when G has it, it’s solid. And this past week was STRANGE seeing multiple “sorry nevermind” posts (which I’m also proud of @HuskerGarrett just being able to say “this is no longer the case”)
I personally think it’s all portal lunacy. I think a lot of it boils down to money for these players. Player says they’re committing and another school comes in with a bigger bag.
I think Minchey and his agent played us the whole time. His first choice was Kentucky. He commits to us and slow plays the signing. Once his first choice came open, he pimped us. Karma will deal with him.
My suspicion with Kaelin is he did indicate he was coming. Then the situation at Virginia changed and they want him back. I think he’s in limbo land right now trying to decide what to do.
It’s really hard to bank on a young person staying the course. Throw money into the conversation and it gets even sketchier.
We’ve got all of these different outlets trying to be first with portal news, and that’s definitely not unique to Nebraska. If @HuskerGarrett waits to post something until it’s 100% happened, he’ll be one of the last.
Hell, grown men don’t keep there commitments anymore, why should we expect kids in the 18-23 range to be any different?
This is personally why I didn't really blame Rhule for the Minchey thing. If all you're getting from a kid is, "I'm coming" then at the last second he switches, how is that on Rhule? Is he supposed to be psychic?
It sucks. It's a bad look, I get it. But if you even think about it for a second, it's easy to see you're asking for an impossible ability to control everything these kids do with probably a dozen people in their ear and millions being thrown around. Outside of gunpoint I don't know how that happens. Hell Kirby freaking Smart lost the #1 player in the country a couple days before signing day a few years ago. It happens.
In reality, it was probably his agent who continued to shop him using Neb's offer against us. He got a bigger offer from Kentucky, took it to Minchey and it was probably an easy decision at that point.
Yeah most likely. I'm skeptical Rhule even had a chance to counter.
