Reasons I think Satterfield is gone (or will be)

I believe that Rhule has moved on from Satterfield (or will get there by Dec 1). I'm kind of shocked at the amount of people who think he'll be back.

Here's my reasons/data points:
  1. Satt is a top 8 paid OC, ranks in bottom 30 in production
  2. NU has not won a game where opponent has scored more than 14 pts in Rhule's tenure
  3. ROSTER: I believe many of our top offensive players like Fidone, Barney, Carter Nelson etc may look to transfer if Satterfield is back in 2025
  4. RECRUITING: I believe we will struggle recruiting top end WRs/RBs if Satterfield stays on
  5. STAFF: simply replacing RB and WR position coaches does not address #3-4
  6. Satterfield has already sold his Lincoln home & rumor that wife/daughter moved back to South Carolina (in a vacuum wouldn't mean much but in this situation...)
  7. Media are openly asking Rhule if Satterfield is going to get fired
  8. When asked 'what does the offense do well?' Rhule shrugged his shoulders 🤷🏻‍♂️ (clip below)
  9. Rhule is needing to bring in outside sources to help diagnose what's going wrong on offense (not good if you're the OC)
  10. Fan apathy. Rhule knows he can't afford to run it back in 2025 with no major changes or you may see repercussions at the gate
  11. Rhule didn't defend Satt in his recent press conferences. He DID defend Satt after the 2023 season.

This is all assuming Nebraska does not go 3-0 vs USC, Wisconsin and Cockeye. If that happened then all bets are off. But I think at best they could go 1-2 & that wouldn't change anything.

Again I'm going to ask why Thomas doesn't get any blame for Riola's regression. It's his job to develop him, and Raiola is worse than game 1. Obviously the offense shares in the blame, but it's not very persuasive to say the QB coach can't be expected to do any better than stand by and watch his 5-star guy fall apart if the play calls aren't good enough.

Seems like every Nebraska QB outside of maybe Tommy Armpenis has regressed dating back to Taylor Martinez.

Glenn Thomas has never been anything spectacular either.
Exactly. We added a 5-star qb, took qb coaching duties away from Satt, demoted Satt to co-OC, brought in a 5-star QB and gave him and co-OC duties to Thomas.

The result is that by week 9, the offense is worse than last year. QB play is currently very close to as bad last year and, relative to the talent of the QB, is arguably a million times worse.

I think Thomas needs to be shown the door as quickly as anybody. We are worse with him, and we were already terrible before he got here.

We can do a fuck ton better and need to given who our QB is.

The kid has the yips mentally right now. That's not an easy thing to fix quickly, especially if he's really dealing with the injuries that have been reported.

As someone that battles the yips in baseball for a short period of time, I can tell you that it wouldn't matter how good the coach was to fix that.

Husker fans' blame toward the assistant coaches has been fascinating to watch this year. Some examples:

Banks/Neyor bad: "100% McGuire's fault"
Isaac Gifford bad: "100% Gifford's own fault" (no one blames John Butler)
Dylan Raiola regression: "100% Satterfield's fault" (no mention of Glenn Thomas)

I think there is a little NFL bias with John Butler and Glenn Thomas. People assume they know their shit bc they came directly from an NFL job. But that really just comes off as cope IMO.

On one hand, the WRs have no fault in the matter - everything bad they do is bc of McGuire. But Gifford can absolutely stink up the joint & literally no one blames Butler. Meanwhile we pretty much have had a back-breaking coverage F-up every game.

And great point about Thomas. The QB doesn't appear to be getting great coaching.

if had moved on you wouldve heard about it already.

if it happens, itll be the end of the year
I don’t think we would hear about it. Satt was apparently demoted before he officially left SC according to their insiders. They’re convinced someone else was calling plays his last few games there.

I meant in his own mind. I'm looking at all the available facts and making an inference that I think Rhule has mentally moved on from Satterfield & there's not a ton Satt can do to change things, barring getting a miracle turnaround these last 3 games.

I wasn't saying that Rhule had already filed paperwork with UNL employment dismissing Satterfield. That won't happen until December.

Which I believe whole heartedly. There is no fucking way satt called an offense that scored 63 on Tennessee then 31 against Clemson the next week.

This is why no coach should take advice from fans.

That being said, Rhule will fire Satt if Satt is the problem. He said he would do whatever it takes to get over the top. I have to believe him. He is a competitive guy that is driven to succeed. He is loyal, but loyalty will not win out over success for him.

Thomas’ 4 seasons as sole OC:

2016 Temple: 43rd in PPG (32.4)
2022 ASU: 79th in PPG (26.1)
2020 UNLV: 120th in PPG (17.3; only 6 games)
2021 UNLV: 112th in PPG (20.8)

Obviously this doesn’t include years he was a Co-OC, but I left those out bc there is no clarification on if he was calling plays or not those years.

Long story short, would much much much prefer Rhule goes outside of his circle to find the best guy possible.
