I know we are worried about a #2 RB and it is obvious to everyone that we need someone to take the load off of EJ. I'm not saying it will happen but IF it happens it will most likely be Kwinten Ives.

Think about it....

If you had to choose, post Cincinnati, a candidate who would emerge from the following choices who do you think has the highest probability of being the #2 to emerge during the season?

Option A: A true freshman WR who recently switched to RB and is literally in his first two months in the position. (Mozee)

Option B: An undersized guy who reclassified in high school so he could join a recruiting class a year early and who obviously still needs some physical development. (Nelson)

Option C: A guy who has already been in the program for 2 years, has had a handful of carries, is 20 years old and more physically suited for his role. (Ives)

IMO....if it wasn't for his hamstring we would have seen Ives take the #2 snaps and not be worried, but still as it stands he has the best chance to give our offense what it needs from a back up standpoint, if he can get healthy.

Best case scenario:

EJ #1 stays healthy modern medical miracle.
Ives solidifies short yardage and #2 role.
Nelson gets 3rd string reps.
Mozee should redshirt. (but get 4 games with bowl game touches as well)
Parker redshirt.

Option B doesn't seem like the right story. He didn't graduate early. He wasn't an academic qualifier, so he transferred to a prep school for his senior year, thinking he would need two years of prep school to qualify for. He ended up qualifying over the summer going into that second year. So he still played 4 years of high school ball....

The fact that the “obvious answer” at RB2 is someone who has 7 yards on 6 carries for his career pretty much tells you everything you need to know about the RB room.
The number of RBs who do nothing their first 2 seasons and end up being difference makers is exceptionally small. The best case scenario is probably that he's extremely mediocre

Ives has to be the leader in the clubhouse for the honorary
“Brody Belt practice hype & no game production” award

He was the pre season guy in all the projections I saw.

Rhule tries to encourage his players through the media and then we read into it that they are potentially good. Have to parse through which is which.
