"Proven Winner" Power 5 Coaches

As a Nebraska fan, I would rather coach Nebraska than any of those. So if I was any of those guys I would answer the phone. Hope this helps

I wonder how the fanbase would react to hiring a guy that got fired at his last job. Moorhead @slattimer, I think Dan Mullen could see himself getting fired as he hasn't beaten a power 5 team in a long time at Florida. Justin Fuente is going to get fired.

Fuente I wouldn't look at, I think Mullen is a good coach, I don't know what's going wrong at Florida. I think Moorhead is a good play caller, basically saved James Franklin's job at Penn State but I think he's a northeastern type of guy.

Some other assistants to think about besides Moorhead...Mike Elko, Marcus Freeman, Alex Grinch, Bill OBrien (think he's been mentioned in another thread).

Would you sell your soul and be ok with Nebraska hiring Art Briles. He's old, I know, but he's probably one of the best coaches in the nation.
Knowing Nebraska fans. Act like a bunch of taters. Moorhead is a fûcking wizard.

Moorhead is a fûcking wizard.
According to ESPN, Mississippi State officials intended to fire Moorhead if he didn't defeat Ole Miss in the 2019 Egg Bowl. However, the Bulldogs won that game 21-20 to become bowl-eligible, making Moorhead only the third Bulldog coach to win his first two Egg Bowls. At an emotional press conference the following day, Moorhead tried to knock down the rumors about his job security, saying, "This is my school, this is my team, this is my program," and that anyone who thought otherwise could "pound sand and kick rocks." He added, "You'll have to drag my Yankee ass out of here."

Ok I love this guy. I'm in.

This gets brought up with the idea of hiring a new coach. We should only be looking for coaches who are "proven winners at the Power 5 level." That sounds great in theory, so I decided to make an actual list of those candidates. Here are the current Power 5 coaches with higher than .600 winning percentage at their current school (minimum 2 full years at current school), which to me is what I would consider a "proven winner" at this level:

Dabo Swinney - Clemson - 143-36
Lincoln Riley - Oklahoma - 52-8
Mike Gundy - Oklahoma State - 143-67
Gary Patterson - TCU - 181-77
Kirk Ferentz - Cockeyes - 174-107
Ryan Day - OSU - 28-3
James Franklin - PSU - 64-29
Paul Chryst - Wisconsin - 59-22
Mario Cristobal - Oregon - 30-11
David Shaw - Stanford - 93-40
Kyle Whittingham - Utah - 138-68
Nick Saban - Alabama - 170-24
Dan Mullen - Florida - 33-12
Kirby Smart - Georgia - 59-13
Ed Orgeron (already fired but finishing the year) - LSU - 49-17
Jimbo Fisher - A&M - 31-12

So what does everybody think? Who might pick up our phone call?
Nobody on that list leaves to come to this clown show regardless of the money.

Nebraska, it’s administration, boosters, and fan base are a complete shit show. The money isn’t worth it to come here. We are officially the career killer school. LOL

True, the vast majority of those guys wouldn't come here. Not because we're some "career killer" kind of job, but because they have good job security, plenty of resources, and are paid a shit ton of money where they are at.

I do think Gundy and Kyle W would listen if we were hollerin' though.

The career killer angle is way overblown.

It's a lazy excuse. Coaches will and do recognize that we have a good AD that will be around for a while and that if/when Frost is canned that it isn't a Bo Pelini or Solich type of situation. Most people outside of Nebraska are surprised we haven't woken up and fired Frost by now since it is definitely warranted.

Solich and Riley were for sure going nowhere regardless of how the Nebraska job went.

Bo killed his own career and continues to do so.

Maybe Wild Bill getting more leash would have led to him getting another crack in the pros, but pretty hard to look at the others as having promising futures had they never come to Nebraska

Could you explain how coaches would recognize Alberts is a good AD, when he has been on the job less than six months?

I don't think we're a career killer. I just think higher profile coaches that are established won't want to come deal with this shit.

If some people gotta be raped/murdered in order to return to dominance, that's just the cost of doing business at this point

His stint at my alma mater, Mt. Vernon High School (TX), he reportedly had zero rapes under his belt. So there's that.

I don't know what to think of the whole Baylor thing. If he's responsible then yeah he shouldn't be coaching. But he is one of the top coaches in the nation. He's won every single spot he's ever been at. He stretches the rules, for sure.

I could and would get on board with those two. Specifically Kyle…and I still believe we are viewed as a clown show circus job currently.

Cause well…it would kill their career…or maybe any live they have for the game?

Thanks know what you are sayin though. I just feel given all that’s gone on, a ton of coaches look at us with a big raised eyebrow now.

I think the one thing I know...

a CEO coach is the way to go.

I remember going to a spring practice at Oklahoma St. I was blown away by how uninvolved he was in practice. He shook hands and kissed babies the first 30 minutes of practice. He stayed in the crow's nest the entire practice on a headset. Then came down at the end and spoke for about 15 minutes.

Gundy is a pipe dream. How many offers do you think that dude got over the past 17 years? Now all of a sudden he's going to give up his osu legacy to come turn around our dumpster fire? Why would he?

OU & Tejas fleeing to the SEC would be the only reason, that conference will not be relevant at that point forward
