Fellas,
It’s been a shit year but there have been pockets of happiness. In November I got a springer spaniel puppy from a breeder in Wasilla.

post your highlights in this thread.

Got divorced. Quit my job for what I thought was a great opportunity. Got laid off. Found a way better woman and a way better job. Had my second child with aforementioned better woman. All in all, despite the shitdemic, I'm better off today than I was a year ago.

That's good to hear, brother.

Life comes at you fast

I was a designated driver for the second or third time in my life tonight, so that makes me feel good about myself and how responsible I've become. That's why I'm posting in the middle of the night since I am now drinking a few domestic tallboys before bed now that I'm home.

Twenty years ago, I was the first one to say as the party was winding "let's go to the hi-way diner" in Lincoln as long as the best drunk driver in the group was driving. People and times change, sometimes for the better.

Got to spend a lot of time with family and friends this year. Tough to beat that, especially when you realize everyone is starting to get old. Summer in Minnesota. Singapore and Vietnam were awesome places to visit, back when we could still do stuff like that. War Museum in Seoul. Off Zoom and back in the classroom at the end of the year. On the cusp of starting up some research again. Can't really complain one bit.

Got engaged and got to spend a boatload of time working on the deer property my father has, and then even more time sitting in trees this fall. Got together with all my family in FL to celebrate mom’s birthday. joined a bocce (really just drinking) league with a bunch of retired guys so it’s a blast. And I think I went the entire year without shutting my pants... 2020 was pretty damn good to me!
