Shitty end to the season, so let’s start looking forward. Portal officially opens in a little over a week, and based on the past couple off-seasons I would expect us to bring in 8-10 transfers. For this thread, we’ll go with 10 as the number. List the positions you’d like us to bring in from the portal from highest priority to lowest.

1) NT - Ty Rob was perhaps our best player this year and, IMO, will be the hardest to replace. We all know success in the B1G starts in the trenches so go find someone to replace him as best as possible.

2) Safety - Singleton was alright this year, Giff was awful, and they’re both gone. Need someone who can come in and start.

3) OT - Between Gottula/TP/TC LT is likely covered, would love to grab someone who can come in and take over Benhart’s spot at RT.

4) DE - Williams Nwaneri plz

5) LS - Marco Ortiz was the most under appreciated 2023 transfer and we saw this year what having a subpar long snapper can do. Find someone solid and bring them in.

6) WR - A transfer who can actually catch the ball would be fantastic.

7) CB - Would love to find someone who could play opposite Wright and take snaps away from Hartzog.

8) Punter - Not sure I’m comfortable with just handing the job to Koch next season. Would like to bring someone in to compete with him.

9) Center - Scott will be tough to replace. Would be great to get someone as a stopgap to let Sledge continue to develop and allow JEJ to stay at OG.

10) RB - This was #1 on my list until EJ’s emergence under Holgorsen. I like the combo of EJ and DD, but if we have a chance to get a DUDE at RB we need to shoot our shot.

Obviously this is very fluid, but this is what the current depth chart would look like next year minus players who for sure won’t be back:

LT: Gottula/Seagren (Teddy P, Corc)?
LG: JEJ/Knaak/Maciejczak
C: XX/Sledge
RG: Lutovsky/XX
RT: XX/B. Knutson
TE: Fidone/Boerkircher/Lindenmeyer
Slot: Barney/Bonner/C. Nelson
WR: XX/J. Lloyd
WR: XX/XX/XX
QB: Raiola/HH/Kaelin
RB: Dowdell/EJ/XX/Ervin

DE: XX/Wallin/K. Davis
NT: XX/Jeudy/V. Jackson
DE: Butler/Lenhardt/J. Williams
LB: XX/Shavers
LB: Gbayor/XX/S. Thompson
JACK: XX/Umanmielen/McGahee
CB: Wright/B. Hill
ROVER: XX/R. Stewart
S: Buford/Buford
S: XX/Bretz
CB: Hartzog/J. Charles

Solid list. Nwaneri would be amazing, but other than that I'm not super worried about DL. RVP is going to be just fine, Jeudy, VJ, Lenhart and Keona Davis all have shown flashes. We can work with thay group i think. OL help I think you can annually keep at the top of these lists though. And I'd put the CB help towards the top too.

Let’s see how much fat we cut from the roster first and much change there is on the coaching staff. I’d hate to get a portal player that has no experience or coming from a losing program worse than ours. I think our OL will be okay since we recruited well there. I’m more concerned about the defensive side of the ball at LB and DBs.

I don’t disagree with any of the needs or positions you’ve outlined - I just want to see us truly “go for it” so to speak this offseason like Ole Miss did last year. Go buy players we have no business landing. I am sick and tired of this slow build BS. If you want to win, bring in the players to do so. I don’t need to wait 4 years for Jeremiah Charles or Brice Turner or whoever to become serviceable. It’s ridiculous that we’re even doing this in 2024-25.

I think we will be surprised by who maybe going into portal. I'm hearing a DB and a RB are headed that way.

Looking at that, my hunch is the coaching staff is going to expect some guys to make a jump and they won't go to the portal in some areas we the fans feel they should. And really, we should hope that would be the case...we should want guys on the roster to start making plays and be reliable.

I've really liked the OL recruiting the last two seasons and am hopeful we see the fruits of that starting next year. If you can get a stud though...I mean obviously do it.

To me, WR is a glaring need for multiple reasons. I'd think with Dana being our new OC, as well as Dylan being here, Nebraska should be a pretty attractive destination.

Care to specify who?

Honestly at this point not much really surprises me when it comes to the portal. You have to assume anyone could be a risk to leave.
not really its all speculation from a decent source. It will be out soon enough. Its free Agency so I wouldn't be surprised by anyone

Fire Glenn Thomas, Satterfield, Barthel, McGuire and Foley. You’ll have to replace White too.

Need to cut around 50ish players unfortunately. If anyone is remotely dead weight or been in the program for 3+ years and has done jack shit it’s time to move on. Portal will be full of players with a different mindset. Have to keep to roster balanced by age but also fuck long term non contributors.
Anyone with significant injury history needs to turned loose as well. Corc, Fidone, Teddy. Thanks for your service but you aren’t helping anything.

The 105 roster limit gives you a chance to cleanse players without looking like a jackass.

Replace all coaches with quality assistants.
If the new dc wants to bring in his own guys, give him that option to an extent.

A year ago, I would completely disagree with this. But I think this would go a long way towards fixing the losing attitude that permeates everything. Bring in kids who are used to winning

Koby Bretz
Gave Ervin
Alex Bullock
AJ Rollins
Teddy P
Turner Corc
Thomas Fidone
Gage Stenger
Jacob Hood

All scholarship players that could be shown the door. Replace them with non contributors from programs with a winning culture

That’s not how this works.

If you know something, drop it here.

RBs I see leaving:
Iwes
Ervin
EJ (possibly)

DBs I see leaving:
Benning
Bootle
Doss
Gradney
Others I can’t think of

People are going to be disappointed if you have expectations of us going strong in the portal. We will go after a handful of guys but a total overhaul is not Rhule’s thing. I also think there is zero evidence that method works with exception of Cignetti bringing his former team with him from James Madison. Lane couldn’t buy his way to a playoff spot in what was the worst SEC conference in sometime.
