I think it will be similar to this year, but I think Smothers will play within the scheme more than Martinez does.
So I think what they are trying to do will be similar, but I think how it is executed will look different.
There are a lot of passes I feel Martinez doesn't throw that are #1 reads that he doesn't throw trying to go for a bigger play. For example....
I would agree with that.I'm actually fairly bullish on Smothers because when he's been in it seems like he runs an actual offense rather than turns it into the YOLO Martinez show. Not that Martinez isn't capable of doing lots of great shit when he yolos, just that he's more boom or bust
Smothers first step is electric, definitely something there. Also I feel he has made significant progress. Last year Martinez was clear #1. This year like you've stated there isn't a huge drop off when he is in and appears by the limited viewings is only slightly behind Martinez.I'm actually fairly bullish on Smothers because when he's been in it seems like he runs an actual offense rather than turns it into the YOLO Martinez show. I'm curious how much the Oline play has stunted/ hurt Martinez's development. Not sure what his progressions are but even with time he continuously misses wide open receivers every game.I would agree with that.
You have to take the good with the bad when it comes to Martinez. I would be very curious how he would do if he was on an offense where he didn't have to be the best player.
I think he's way less dumb. McCaffrey had the combination of traits that make for the worst QB: bad arm and a belief that he has a good arm. I think Smothers is more aware of his limitationsIf Smothers could throw the deep ball I'd be more bullish on him. Some of his passes give me McCaffrey vibes.
I wonder if we had an RB like Ozigbo who could rip off big plays what Martinez's career would have looked like.I'm curious how much the Oline play has stunted/ hurt Martinez's development. Not sure what his progressions are but even with time he continuously misses wide open receivers every game.
PFF loves Smothers. He's The #1 ranked qb with no minimum snaps.I'm actually fairly bullish on Smothers because when he's been in it seems like he runs an actual offense rather than turns it into the YOLO Martinez show. I mean between his soph through senior he has had some real valleys in talent around him.I'm curious how much the Oline play has stunted/ hurt Martinez's development. Not sure what his progressions are but even with time he continuously misses wide open receivers every game.
That is sort of like Koch being one of the most efficient passers in NFL historyPFF loves Smothers. He's The #1 ranked qb with no minimum snaps.
If Martinez is gone, they need to bring in a transfer QB.Smothers is a glorified Mccaffrey. Slightly better thrower, slightly worse runner.
I don't understand why everyone would rather have Smothers than Rattler. It would be for one year. Let Smothers develop for one more year but by that time Haarberg will probably pass him up.
Ya I think everyone is in agreement, Martinez over Rattler but if Martinez is gone I have no problem with them going after Rattler or another high-profile transfer. All camp we heard about how big of a dropoff there was from Martinez to the backups. If Martinez is gone, they need to bring in a transfer QB.
I don't think Haarberg passes Smotherd 2022 but probably 2023.Smothers is a glorified Mccaffrey. Slightly better thrower, slightly worse runner.

Agreed. Wonder what that market will look like and how competitive it will be.If Martinez is gone, they need to bring in a transfer QB.
I have no idea. HH has much better physical tools, but he ain't in Kearney anymore.I don't think Haarberg passes Smotherd 2022 but probably 2023.
I'd take any transfer QB over Rattler. It's one thing to have a guy that turns the ball over at poor times (Martinez), it's another to have that same guy thats an awful teammate and less running skills.Smothers is a glorified Mccaffrey. Slightly better thrower, slightly worse runner.
