Forde-Yard Dash: Imagining the Wildest College Football Coaching Carousel Chain Reaction
What if one move completely spun the sport into orbit? Here are our (mostly unserious) dominoes.www.si.com
An unserious look at what Forde considers a possible domino effect in the coaching carousel this year
- UCLA hires Kalani Sitake away from BYU
- Steve Sarkisian leaves Texas for BYU. Sarkisian is an alum and would leave due to pressures of the UT job
- Texas hires Lane Kiffin away from Ole Miss
- James Franklin leaves Penn State for Ole Miss
- Penn State hires Matt Rhule, a Nittany Lion alum
- Nebraska hires Missouri's Eli Drinkwitz. Forde notes: "Drinkwitz is a savvy portal operator and a relentless recruiter, both necessary traits at Nebraska."
- Missouri hires Ryan Silverfield from Memphis
People are asking if we should fire Rhule and make itHe's not a better "Chief Executive" than Rhule. But he's an elite Offensive Mind. And if he retained Mozee, Nebraska would absolutely take the 10 best players in Missouri every season.
That move would be a death punch to Mizzou as much as it would be a positive for Nebraska.
Living in the Phoenix area, I keep my eyes on Dillingham. He’s done a good job at ASU. Not sure how well he would do elsewhere. If Penn State comes open they HAVE to go after someone they believe is better than Franklin - and for all the shit he gets, that means someone very good.
My List of Who Makes Sense:
1. Brian Kelly - LSU ain't seeming to work out as a fit. I think he'd bounce for the North if he could. Basically redo ND with better recruiting.
2. Cignetti - Kill Indiana AND get a hot coach that seemingly has the big time figured out. He wants to go somewhere bigger than IU with that ego of his, no matter what he will ever say. He would think he can make PSU the Bama of the North
3. Dillingham - he's too big to be at ASU forever. Some big program will give him a shot. He'd be damn good in my opinion
4. Redo the Vandy to PSU pipeline - Clark Lea - this would be a fuggin GAMBLE, but both come from Vandy, both are bald, people may not even notice you made a change.
5. Drinkwitz to PSU instead of wherever else he'd be rumored - he's got the NIL and Portal DOWN and would be great at a legit power in my opinion.
If Matt Rhule did last year what he seems to be doing this year, he may be on the table. But no one would consider him an upgrade based on how Nebraska has gone, even if I believe he's right for us.
Religious convictions hold no sway where profit is concerned.Would BYU ever hire a (former?) drunk?
Kelly used to drop f bombs in front of the sideline priests. Didn’t cause any problems.Religious convictions hold no sway where profit is concerned.
Especially with Mormons.
I wonder about Dillingham. He's an ASU guy all the way. I think it will depend on how the next round of conference realignment goes on a few years. If he thinks ASU is going to be left behind he might jumpIf Penn State comes open they HAVE to go after someone they believe is better than Franklin - and for all the shit he gets, that means someone very good.

Yeah, they're not firing a guy who can't win big games to hire a coach with a bad record in big games. Unless we win the B1G this year there's no way they would hire Rhule.I mentioned this in a different thread a couple of days ago but unless Rhule has a CFP appearance and a win or two I really doubt there would be enough internal support from Pedo State to allow their AD to hire Rhule.
Hell, Liberty hired Hugh Freeze.Kelly used to drop f bombs in front of the sideline priests. Didn’t cause any problems.

You must have a very interesting search history

Oh Corny. We have some disagreements, sir. This is stupid. I;m not calling you stupid. But you are kind of delusional for a few reasons:
1. Penn State is not a better job than LSU at this point, right now at least.
2. Cignetti is going South or maybe to USC if he leaves. The man is old. He also has gotten damn good recruiting in fertile grounds. The man is not recruiting Johnny Football Star from Muncie, Indiana.
3. Nobody is hiring the Vandy Coach. He's technically been LESS successful than Franklin. The man is just enjoying NIL.
4. Dillingham isn't leaving Arizona State. Its his alma mater. His parents are barely 55, and they live 10 minutes from their stadium. That man will be a lifer. Hell, he might have 30 more years coaching with his family around him.
5. Eli Drinkwitz is a southerner. Ironically, he coaches at the most Northern SEC school and sounds like the best fit in the league.
@Cornicator also - I just looked up Dillingham's salary. 5.8 mill instead of 10 at PSU? Women and money stay undefeated. This would be a great showdown because "women" would lead to ASU, "money" would lead to PSU.Oh Corny. We have some disagreements, sir.
1. No one said it's a better job. But LSU has insane expectations - win a natty or GTFO. And BK ain't winning a Natty there. He'd be quite literally perfect at PSU and would be considered an upgrade from James Franklin. The whole thing there has been "off"
2. Cignetti is going wherever the hell he thinks he can make the biggest splash.
3. This was a joke...but also, winning 7 at Vandy seems to be cause for getting a big job.
4. He will leave if they get left behind in realignment and, boy, the Big12 seems to matter less and less every year.
5. True. He's also making more at Mizzou than I'd have guessed. Strike him from the record, sir.
