On3 Buys Rivals

I find it hilarious that every company in a pretty saturated industry was founded by the same guy. He keeps starting companies, selling them, then prompty starting a new company doing the same exact thing to compete with the company he just sold.

they are going to get bought out and be looking for a job probably
Sadly you are probably correct.

Real shame as Steve is the best Nebraska football beat reporter, his articles are the best.

and Tim is the best recruiting reporter for Nebraska.

I don't think either will have an issue getting a job, but the Nebraska fans are the ones that lose if they aren't retained.

Since this is an acquisition, On 3 will keep the subscribers, keep fansites (which are more like franchises) in markets in which they did not have a fansite, decide which fansites to keep in markets with duplicates. Most of the On3 sites were acquistions which were acquired because of their top position in a market, so the On 3 sites likely will almost all stay. I think everyone at eliminated fansites would be out of a job and would get whatever severance local law requires, with fansite owners getting some kind of buyout.

The National Rivals team? The best guys would get job offers from On 3, probably mostly offset by layoffs from On 3. Everyone else is duplication and would get severed, I would think.

It could be local fansite reporters get offers but they are likely to be few and far between. Does Callahan need a larger staff? The answer is No, I would guess. It's the same thing as before, just more subscribers. Keep Mongo? He probably is cheap as it is a part-time job for him.

I think Yahoo was losing money on Rivals, which explains the deal structure.

If there was any sort of actual thought or attention to detail behind these moves, Sean would be forced to get rid of Mongo in order to make room for Tim. But we all know that won't happen, so Tim maybe moves on to another market and we get stuck with Mongo posting "I sent five DMs over the weekend but he never responded. He's very difficult to get a hold of." for every recruiting update.

They're in good hands now.

To be honest, the Mainboard was the only fun thing to read on Rivals. Sure, the homeboard had good articles, but the tMB was its own beast. And now that its possible that it goes away, tMB Discord is getting flooded.
