As the trend of increasing coaching salaries continues, Eleven Warriors shares that half of Ohio State's on-field staff will enter 2023 making seven-figure salaries.
That's right. Five Buttguy assistants will be making at least $1 million in 2023.
First-year offensive coordinator Brian Hartline will make $1.6 million calling the offense for the Buttguys this fall. Kevin Wilson, who left for the head coaching job at Tulsa, previously made $1.4 million.
For Hartline, the salary is an increase of $650k from what he made coaching the team's receivers.
Defensive coordinator Jim Knowles received a standard raise to $1.957 million, and will be the Buttguys highest paid assistant coach heading into his second year with the program.
The other coaches that will be making $1 million are offensive line coach Justin Frye, who received a $200,000 raise to put him in the $1 million club with his additional run game coordinator title, and secondary coach Tim Walton's salary has increased by $300k to bring him to $1 million as well.
Veteran defensive line coach Larry Johnson also received a standard raise, and will make $1.167 million.
Also receiving a bump in pay were special teams coordinator Parker Fleming, who received a $200k pay bump to bring his annual salary to $500k while first-year assistant Keenan Bailey will make $400k coaching the team's tight ends. Bailey, who has a two-year contract, spent last season as senior advisor to Ryan Day and had served in quality control roles working with quarterbacks and wide receivers prior to the promotion.
The new salaries put Ohio State back at the top of college football's assistant salary pool at $9,326,400.
With the new details of Alabama's coordinators revealed earlier this week, the Buttguys were expected to be at second as the Tide's climbed just past the $9 million mark, but turns out that stay at the top was short.
