Scat sucks but it ain't because he can't recite nerd stats
I'm curious but what should not only Scattmuncher, his boss, the entire offensive analytics team and the fans look at instead of "nerd stats"? We certainly don't want to look at scoring averages either because those nerd stats won't make him or the job he's doing look any better. So what should they be analyzing?

I mostly said nerd stats facetiously. Of course they should use stats to help them assess what they're doing along with game and practice film. It'd be absolutely silly not to. But I don't care that he had a dumb answer for YPP. He's a shit coordinator for so many more important reasons than that

I just assumed behind the scenes they were money-balling shit with analytics and KPI's for the offense.

In reality we are just like my 5th grade football team at the Y just doing up-downs and running into tackling dummies. Only my 5th grade OC knew how to put together a running game.

I kind of hope Satt was quietly relieved of OC duties and Thomas is calling the shots now. Rhule just doesn’t want to make that public and have those publicly made changes instantly be sledgehammered this weekend against the Buckeyes.

In order for that to work, a checked out Satterfield still needs to attend press conferences and answer questions. He just doesn’t give a shit when the questions asked don’t pertain to his job anymore and doesn’t have the emotional intelligence to act like he does.

At least that’s the hope. Start the new coordinating now, accept our lumps against Ohio State, hopefully see improvement against UCLA to become bowl eligible, have another bye week to hopefully actually improve and attempt to salvage the season in the back three games.
If he were to do any changes like that - even internal - my guess is he'd wait until that UCLA game.

Reason being, as a HC you want your changes to 'hit' with your players. Even if GT called a good game we could still lose 52-10 at OSU. I think you're better off letting Satt lay in the bed he made for himself at the Shoe.

Damn I forgot about that. I think 99% of NU fans thought Chinander was not coaching defense that next week vs OU.

I'm pretty out on Satt, but people really look for things to be outraged about, and act like every little inane thing is a massive problem when morale is low.

I'll bet Scott Frost could recite the NCAA averages across all stat categories from memory. But that wasn't the secret sauce.
It isnt about reciting it's about setting KPIs and measuring yourself against them. It's what successful people do across industries. It may come down to wins and losses in the end but what metrics get you there. Some may include in the OC role would be YPP or PPG etc.

How does Satt know if he is meeting the standard if a standard isn't set?

Look at this corporate guy who works in corporate doing corporate things

This comment also seems wild considering Rhule talks about analytics a decent amount in game management. Hard to imagine he hasnt atleast looked at these statistics

If I know how people use analytics like I think I do from doing corporate analytics for a corporation in corporate, people love them when they confirm what they already think and ignore them when they think they know better.

I guess the point is this one in particular was picked out by a member of the media. Is it an internal KPI? Doesn't sound like it. My guess would be that their KPIs are more situational.

Seems like a natural follow up would have been to ask if that's one of the things they measure on, and if not, what stats they do target. Unfortunately, no such luck with our media gaggle.

Oh I completely agree, but I also think a competent person being asked that question (who makes much more than me on an annual basis) would say well that isn't how we measure success, we primarily focus on these metrics to determine the success of our team offensively.

I would say "y'all blow me"
