It's amazing how Kansas has two good QBs and Nebraska has zero.
Leipold and co. have a track record of identifying and developing qbs for his system. His offense is one of the more fun ones to watch.

As much as TMart, YOLO Tommy and AMart were disliked, all three were talented and much better than what we have now. TMart was not a great thrower, yet he had lots of successful pass completions in his career. He also was a game breaker with his speed and athleticism.

YOLO Tommy was not as fast as TMart, but a "better" arm. Lower completion percentage and not a good throwing decision maker. But he was still athletic, tough, and a good leader overall.

AMart was the most overall "talented" of the 3, but was not a fast blinker, couldn't read the field well, and overall just was not good enough to lead a cohesive, consistent offense. He was not as fast as TMart, a bit faster than YOLO Tommy, so athletically in the running sense, pretty darn good. All 3 were excellent athletes as QB's. We don't want a sloth back there taking the snap, but we also can't have QB's who can't play the position well enough to field a consistent winning %.

All 3 were turnover machines, though. As T.O. always said, turnovers are the single most important stat in a football game.

Now we have a talented QB, who is big, fast and strong. Strong arm - he doesn't lack for arm strength. But by far the slowest blinker of the 4 QB's in this conversation. An even worse turnover machine, than the other 3 turnover machines. But those other turnover machine QB's, actually won most of their games over their careers. Now we have a guy who literally looks like he will lose us every game he plays. And really no backup QB worth a damn.

QB has been our achilles heel. Sometimes the talented 3 took over and won games, but too often their turnover percentage made winning far tougher than it should have been. We absolutely have to start bringing in more true QB talent. More than one per cycle. If not, good luck on even being able to have a winning season.

No secret here, but I watch a lot of Kansas Football. I would not categorize Jason Bean as a "good quarterback". He's a fast runner, with not a lot of instinct. He's a questionable thrower/decision maker.

Jalon Daniels is a good quarterback, but let's be honest. He was a 5.4 2 star recruit coming out of high school, who's offers were from Kansas, Air Force, Army, Bryant, Eastern Washington, Louisiana, Middle Tennessee State, New Hampshire, New Mexico State, and Tennesse-Martin.

If Nebraska offered a kid like that, the fan base would collectively lose their shit. The truth is, given the situation that Kansas was in, they could afford to take a risk on a kid like this and hope that he developed, which thankfully he has. He's also in his 4th year at KU.

going back to look at QB recruiting since Pelini, only 2 HS QB recruits have finished their eligibility at NU. that's 2/15, with Haarberg still playing. The last QB to finish his eligibility at NU was from the 2012 class. the most important position on the team, and the recruiting has been almost entirely misses, while the few who were decent never developed and improved year over year

2008 - Kody Spano (transferred)
2009 - Cody Green (transferred)
2009 - Taylor Martinez
2010 - Brion Carnes (transferred)
2011 - Bubba Starling (never enrolled)
2012 - Tommy Armstrong
2013 - Johnny Stanton (transferred)
2014 - Zach Darlington (position change, retired)
2014 - AJ Bush (transferred)
2015 - no QB
2016 - Patrick O'Brien (transferred)
2017 - Tristan Gebbia (transferred)
2018 - Adrian Martinez (transferred)
2019 - Luke McCaffrey (transferred)
2020 - Logan Smothers (transferred)
2021 - Heinrich Haarberg
2022 - Richard Torres (transferred)
2023 - no QB

I'd count Martinez since he did play 4 years and got the bonus covid year. Would be interesting to see other P4 teams, if QBs don't play they transfer.

I think this off-season is as simple as letting Purdy and Sims move on. Move HH to TE. Bring in Kaelin and 2-3 transfers. The whole room needs redone
I actually wanted to create a post about this because ultimately, 50% of your team is the QB. Without a solid QB, your team ain't going to win no matter how good rest of the team you have.

If Sims is this bad after two games and neither of the scholarship backups can be good enough to step up over him, then at the end of the season, you push everyone out who can't go into a different role.

I will say this though; as a transfer player, you ultimately lose out if you transfer again. But considering how big college football is getting, it's nothing personal, but good business for the state of the program.

I hate to retcon how it went, but old Easton Stick is on an NFL roster and whoever we took his year probably transferred
