NU FB: Is canceling the televised spring game the right decision?

Is canceling the televised spring game the right decision?

  • YES - Don't need a 2-hr TV window showcasing our new players in the spring

  • NO - NU spring game is tradition, we get huge crowds, keep playing it and putting it on TV

Results are only viewable after voting.
Wearing pants so my giant hog doesn’t get caught in the door is technically bitch behavior but once it happens to you, you stop caring.

Game has changed. It’s open market 24x7. So, don’t fault him for it at all.

It’s disappointing, yet here we are. Until some common sense rules and boundaries find their way back into the game. Deal with it.

This is professional college football now.

I would just say, don't you think Rhule is aware of the advantage our program gets from our spring game? Due to the crowd size and the TV placement...and the social media army we have beaming out every spring game highlight (remember Dylan last yr)....Nebraska probably has a top 5 most visible spring game.

There's no reason for Rhule to nuke it. Our spring game is big for our brand. And our recruiting. And it brings in some $$. Why would Rhule want to cancel it for no reason? That makes no sense.

Obviously he's saying that the poaching is real. He has no reason to make that up. There is no alterior motive for Rhule to cancel the game if it's not that. I'm laughing at people implying that Rhule is making this up.

The spring game is 99% goodness for NU, our brand, our recruiting and our fans. IMHO Rhule would only cancel this for a very good, legitimate reason.
Ya, I was thinking, is he just not televising it and still going to do it? The thing that was brought up this morning is the spring game is a massive recruiting tool for us and Rhule knows that. So you can't nuke it entirely. But I do know that we had a ton of guys showing him DMs of what they were going to be offered if they transferred, so his concerns are valid (not that it matters if some weirdo like myself thinks they are valid or not). I would hate being a college football coach in this time of NIL and transfer portal.

I used to go as a kid, then not for many years, then went as a student, then not for many years again, and just recently rediscovered it as an easy option to go to with my dad and brother. I hoped to start bringing my daughter in a year or two. So it's a bummer, I think a lot of people have that same idea.

But as someone else said, Rhule scours the program for ways to showcase what we have here, if nothing else he has proven that, and there's no way he would cancel it without very good reason. I hope they do SOMETHING in its place, and I bet they will. It's obviously a big deal to the city of Lincoln to have another gameday on the calendar.

You are asking the right question.
Prior to this…hey, they are just kids, student athletes playing a game. They work hard for their scholarships.

Now…million dollar players, should give million dollar results.

NFL light should come with different expectations of players now, correct?

I think 99% of the problem is solved by not allowing it to be televised, and not allowing obvious recording devices. Connor Stalions’ grainy cell phone video isn’t going to give them much to go off imo.

I think the spring game is too important for recruiting and the program to allow it to die. Hopefully this is Rhule’s attempt to attract attention to a problem, instead of actually pulling the trigger.

I disagree. If you get 60k fans there, there will be all kinds of high quality videos hitting twitter and facebook that day. You can shoot full length movies on iPhone 14s and later. If Rhule did this there would be quality highlights of every semi interesting play on the internet the next day.

Remember, there's a reason Rhule doesn't allow fans to attend scrimmages. Or regular practices. Heck, Rhule actually changed his policy on allowing friends/family/HS coaches to attend practices - that's how locked down this stuff is now.

I agree 100% that the Nebraska spring game is a differentiator for our brand and our recruiting. I just don't see a way for us to hold it if Rhule's issue is players getting noticed (and then hit up by opposing coaches). We have an army of social media nuts that rivals a Russian bot farm - if anyone does something halfway notable that'll be beamed out for 1m+ views.

I hear you, I just think it would be a mistake to cancel it for what it means for recruiting and this university. I also think his job is now to continue to recruit his players, at all times, until the rules change. I know it sucks, but it’s the reality of college football.
