That's what I thought. But I'm pretty sure they (the state or whatever) can go back like 5 years and see assets they've had and ask what happened to them.

Kinda... You will need to do some trust work, but if you are on the doorstep of needing care you are pretty much fucked.

Look for an elder law attorney. If you are in Omaha area I can help you with a referral.

I wouldn't say fucked necessarily. But yes get the recs from Faux for the attorney. There's a couple I've dealt with in the past and they did the job but I'm not referring them because I think they're douchebags. Hopefully Faux has one that isn't.

Medicaid is VERY thorough regarding their 5 yr look-back. If you tried to hide, or retitle ownership of, any assets in that 5 yr period they are like sharks with blood in the water. They have seen every trick in the book.
