NIL nonsense

I got the impression myself just by seeing him.

What’s stopping a guy like you or I from reaching out to an athlete, no big bullshit contracts and giving them money or product for a little advertising?

Technically I don't think anything unless they have a contract with ABM. Would probably have to go through compliance department in some fashion. @rss428 has been looking into this a lot. Maybe he knows of something.
From my understanding while talking to a guy at Opendorse, there's a lot of yellow tape involved. It's the reason why Opendorse exists because they've figured all of that out already and will handle it for you. Currently, I don't believe any kind of deals can be done without an actual business paying the athlete in some way. It's why you hear so much about big boosters creating shell companies to pay NIL money. Now, I don't really know how it would work if an athlete wanted to start selling signed gear, but we really haven't seen any of that to this point. There must be some yellow tape making that difficult.

Honestly if I wanted to move back to Nebraska I would probably try to do it. Whats not to like about helping my favorite team's athletes by prying money out of rich people's hands?

If it was run properly it would really help our teams. However it would be a huge Up Hill Battle as Gerrod is Frost's Life Long BFF. I appreciate his loyalty to a friend but it bothers me when it comes at a cost to our program. When you literally have Boosters/Business Owners that approach ABM about getting money to players and they are turned off by ABM then you have a serious problem. He wasn't even going out to them as the checkbooks literally walked in his front door, and walked back out with all of their blank checks still in place.

So all 'NIL' companies like ABM are fronts for businesses to funnel monies into and the company funnels monies out to student-athletes right? IF ABM has 3.5 million in coffers and will dole that money out to athlete ABC for doing appearances, commercials, camps...Seriously, what's to stop another group to come in and swoop? Is it literally the fact that GL has SF's ear and backing? John Bruning owns the company, GL runs it?? I guess. Like @MtnHusker said, if run properly it would help the teams. BUT also like he said, it's an uphill battle that would take time to discredit ABM to the point that athletes would want to jump ship.

Do you think ABM has these athletes on contract with them? I would assume so. I think right now the hot ticket is women's sports, if ABM were smaht they would be all over the softball, basketball, hell even bowling...get those girls some deals that would rival, in the long term, what the football and volleyball players are making. That's where I would start, and flaunt the shit out of it. I know the big pocket boosters don't give a shit about those teams BUT if you were able to show the ability to capitalize on the 'hot' streaks of women's sports right now...you could make in-roads on the other athletes....

or maybe I'm full of shit....

Real question is how are we getting this money to recruits? Are we promising them deals if they sign? I don’t really care about what deals current players get, what’s important to me is how we are using this to pull in players that we wouldn’t normally get.

Seems like a simple formula to get your foot in the door but the Old Guard/BFF Network would be tough to get a big piece of the Pie, and Salsa. Hire popular players after they graduate. Boom, there is your In with the players. In the Music & Entertainment Industries the Management & Booking Agents normally make around 10-20% of the contract. So you pay the former players a Base Salary with Commissions for all of the revenue generated for the players they sign. Gerrod going Old Skool by hiring the 2 Eye Candy girls to promote his business. I'm sure the company parties are fun but how do you think the female athletes feel when that is what they see as the reps. Seems quite shallow in this day and age of PC equality.

Not sure if this would be legal or not, but can a company try and structure performance incentive deals with student athletes? Let's say Suh and David started a NIL company called Black Shirt Enterprises that caters to defensive players and they get paid internships during the off season and able to workout with Suh, David and other former players while washing their cars. As part of their incentives during the season, if the student get a 3.5 or higher GPA, they get a $50k bonus. If player XYZ can break the schools sack record or have more sacks SUH did in a season, they would get a $100k bonus. Again, I feel that you can use former players that are not on the SF train nor loyal to Osbourne and have them play dirty against ABM and backdoor whatever drug deals SF is getting from his buddy @ AFM. Plus as soon as SF is fired after the 2022 season, ABM will probably be go under unlike an alumni founded company. I could be totally off, just throwing it out there for discussion purposes.

Also agree with marketing women's sports more as well since Nebraska is now a majors sports school for women.

You show the recruits a track record of success. I'm not privy to the behind the scenes information but a couple boosters mentioned that they felt they were being directed to have their NIL $$$ go to Martinez because the coaches wanted to be able to use what he made as an example for recruits. Makes Business Sense but unfortunately that is unfair to the other players that they wanted to pay through NIL.

Didn't Texas Boosters set up some LLC that they give all of the scholarship O Linemen 6 figures each season? We may be the only major college in our state when it comes to football we can't compete with the big money that Texas Boosters can produce. That's why it bothers me so much that our NIL Program representative ABM has wasted some of our limited Booster Resources. We need ABM to be fine tuned and organized but instead we get Boosters not investing in our program because they feel Gerrod is a scammy Dolt.

Unless someone such as a booster is wanting to blanket their money across the program I cannot for the life of me understand why someone would go to ABM. For me personally I would want to generate a little notoriety out of it therefore I’d choose athletes with interests in what my business is about.
For example, I own a retail business that sells hunting products. Last year was my first year in business so I reached out to Nash but could only offer major savings on products such as “cost” on anything to he or his family (one item would be over $1,000 per unit savings). He was very kind but that didn’t do it for him.
This year I could probably offer some money but am unsure what it takes to trip the triggers of these athletes.

If I understand it correctly, you can't incentive based on on-field performance, you, as a business, have to show that athlete is bringing value to your business.

Easy example: Ernie's in Ceresco and providing Casey Thompson with furniture. Casey in return tweeted that he received it and thanked Ernie's for the furniture. Ernie's can say they received something in return from the athlete that provided them business.

my question about it is...apparently some of the boys on the bball team got car deals...are you fucking kidding me? the only one that deserved a car was a true freshman who is gone now. IF I were the one that made that deal, you bet your ass those shitheads wouldn't be sporting around town with my logo on that car...play like shit, get shit car...Dodge Neon for all you except Bryce

So basically, they are paid spokesperson for companies and get free merchandise. Pretty lame IMO. I still feel that one can blur the lines with the alum. If I go back to the Black Shirt Enterprises example if Suh and David developed an offseason DL & LB camp/clinic where current players can work at the camps alongside the pros and still get paid as their "added value" to the business. Plus this will also allow other businesses/boosters support previous players and funnel $$$ to the players while avoiding ABM. This could help Nebraska recruit better DL knowing they can get paid while working with Suh during the off season while promoting his camp/clinic. The same could be said for the OL as well. Just throwing ideas out there and if you are not cheating, you are not trying.
