Almost a year into the NIL era and Dean and the gang still don't understand why people crave more information, or have critiques/theories about NU's NIL efforts. I don't know if they're being willfully ignorant, or they have skin in the game somehow, but personally I think a few different things can be true:

1. Before NIL was officially implemented, we all heard about how NU was preparing to be a leader in the field, and this could be our huge shot to level the playing field with recruiting for the first time since the glory days.

2. As our recruiting class stalled throughout the 2021 season, there was very little happening publicly on the NIL front. Agencies for other teams were bragging about ridiculous NIL deals while ABM seemed, at least from the outside looking in, to be slipshod and thrown together on the fly (owners had no experience in the field, no social media presence, website looked like it was from the late 90s for the first nine months, etc.)

3. As Dean has said many times, ABM is just one agency and if people think they can do a better job they are free to try (even though ABM is run by the head coach's oldest friend and is as close to being 'official' as these things can be).

4. Based on what players and recruits are saying, it seems like things are apparently better behind the scenes with NIL than a lot of us have assumed. It has to be to attract the transfers/recruits we've had in lately.

5. NIL is now a GIGANTIC part of recruiting and player retention, and fans are not used to having something so integral to the game be shrouded in secrecy, private financial information, and dependent on outside business decisions. OF COURSE people have tons of questions and theories and crave more information. Media members basically just throwing up their hands and saying "hey I just pass along info, why is everyone questioning it?" doesn't really help the situation.

6. People WANT this to work well, and they want to know more about how it all works so that we can follow this part of the team as closely as the other parts. If this is now the number one way to recruit and keep players, then it's just as important and should be just as up for discussion as wins/losses/stats.

I am curious if anyone here has offered any NIL deals to current players. Surely there are some business owners in here that may see it as good advertisement depending on the type of business they run.

If you were to make an offer how would you go about it?

I'm glad you put this on RSS as well. In today's society if you're not transparent, there will be pressure to provide transparency.

What needs to happen is someone with connections needs to do their research on NIL and provide the data and/or story to the masses. I'm thinking someone with a big name that's national. The "trust me" factor just doesn't work like it did 20 years ago. I suspect that as more data is gathered, more info will leak, and eventually someone will take a stab at ranking schools for NIL. Somewhat like how US News and World Report ranks universities from not the most reliable information.

It'd be better than nothing. I guarantee you there's someone out there who's trying to figure this all out.....and it's not going to be Dean Callahan.

I know of 2 long time Boosters of substance that who asked how to get money to football players through NIL and were "Directed" to Gerrod/ABM. They both met with him and both left without giving a dime. Both thought he was scammy plus had no idea what he was doing. They literally both packed up their checkbooks and left after meeting him. One actually used the term "Dolt" when describing Gerrod after meeting with him. Another said "Unprofessional". I have yet to speak with 1 booster or business owner who has been impressed with their NIL opportunities after meeting with Gerrod/ABM.

I got the impression myself just by seeing him.

What’s stopping a guy like you or I from reaching out to an athlete, no big bullshit contracts and giving them money or product for a little advertising?

Is there a less marketable and attractive top 15-25 program than Wisconsin? I’ve also heard that Chryst is the most boring human in the world. Makes Ben Stein’s voice sound riveting.
Chryst strikes me as a one-dimensional guy that is interested in football only. Not a dynamic human being and a total palooka.

Technically I don't think anything unless they have a contract with ABM. Would probably have to go through compliance department in some fashion. @rss428 has been looking into this a lot. Maybe he knows of something.

Early on I believe I saw where Sanford and Nutsmasher advertised a little for a farm implement dealer in Falls City. I’m assuming they reached out privately.
