New iPhone 14 and Apple Watch Ultra

Thoughts? Is it worth the upgrade? The “dynamic island” looks kind of cool

Seems Apple is going after the Garmin Forefunner crowd (new Apple Ultra is $799).

I don't think the Apple Ultra's 36 hour battery life is long enough to track exercise and sleep (you'd have to charge very often), and I'll stick with my Garmin 945 for now, but I'll keep watching the improvements on the Apple watch and maybe someday get it.

Garmins are great.

Still don't understand the smart watch thing
I love mine, which is cellular. Don't need my phone. Can operate my Tonal with it. Paired to my headphones, I can run while listening to music or podcasts without needing to have a phone on me. Husker tickets are on my watch in Apple Wallet.

my iPhone XS is still doing great and I won’t get a new phone until this one dies

PS: Wife has been through like 3 phones over the same time period tho, she lives to drop or lose her phone

Mine actually dropped a new iPhone into an open-top ginormous diet Coke she'd just purchased from Cubby's. An open-top soda fountain cola ... no lid nor straw. Incredible.

FWIW, you'd see a big leap forward in performance from that XS to the new 14, particularly in the camera and connectivity to more and faster networks while you're burning up the highways in rural Nebraska and Kansas. It's nice to have (fast) signal vs. being in "paperweight mode". My $0.02 on that one, amigo.

When are they going to make them more compatible with Android messaging. It's mind bottling.
Or ... when is Android messaging going to become compatible with iMessage?

I hate this, FWIW. Had to send a bunch of files out last night to folks I play Pickleball with. Many were Android users and I had to ping them for their email addresses as simple .pdf's wouldn't send from my iMac using iMessage. Sucks balls.

Apparently it’s Apple that refuses to make their phones compatible with the new texting technology (RCS I believe) and instead convert all texts from Android to old SMS technology. They could easily support newer technology but it forces people to buy iPhones to avoid the “green bubbles” and quality issues with texting to androids
