New commuter car recs

Hard to beat a Toyota Camry or Honda Accord that's at least a couple years old and has the new car depreciation already taken care of out of someone else's wallet.

I bought an outback for the reason.. its a good car, maybe a bit shitty on the mpg compared to a hybrid or something else

find something thats comfortable to you and if you are logging highway miles.. adaptive cruise control is great "new" tech

i'd prob look at an accord or maybe a nice civic more if I was doing it again

We’ve outgrown the minivan and I’m looking into getting a Suburban, Tahoe, or similarly sized vehicle for the wife.

Not really wanting to drop $80k right now so I’m looking for something a couple years old in the $50k range. I’d prefer rolling the dice with something in the $25k-$35k range but the wife disagrees.

So my question is, anyone have experience with the Suburban, Yukon, Yukon XL, Tahoe, Expedition, or Expedition MAX the previous few years in terms of reliability? Certain engine configurations that suck?

4x4 and seating for 7+ is a must.

Wife will be pleased so I’ll be bumping the ding thread shortly after I buy it.

Not really wanting to drop $80k right now so I’m looking for something a couple years old in the $50k range. I’d prefer rolling the dice with something in the $25k-$35k range but the wife disagrees.

So my question is, anyone have experience with the Suburban, Yukon, Yukon XL, Tahoe, Expedition, or Expedition MAX the previous few years in terms of reliability? Certain engine configurations that suck?

I haven’t personally had any but seems almost every family in my neighborhood has either a Yukon or Tahoe and they all love it.

I’ve heard there’s some crazy cheap lease deals on some of the electric vehicles right now. Might be worth looking into

New Prius is actually really nice, I rented one on Turo for a trip with a lot of driving and considered buying one. Really spacious, lots of cargo room, reasonably quick and I got 50+ mpg. Looks way better than the prior generations too.

Friend has about the same drive daily, he chose an IONIC, absolutely loves it, says perfect for that situation. He also got a deal with getting charger installed in garage included when he bought it.

Also have another person I know that owns one, also loves it.

Have an Aviator (love it) but it only seats 6. Drove the Navigator and loved it, just was a bit too big as I have to park in DC a few times a month and sucks.

I'd personally stay away from GM with their lifter issues in 5.3L and the 6.2L are having issues with their bottom end by losing some piston pin and causing to explode.

The new Chevy Traverse might be something to look at which has the Super Cruise in a lower level trim for under $50k. I'd say look a new Ford Explorer, but might be too small for what you're look for.

I'd personally stay away from GM with their lifter issues in 5.3L and the 6.2L are having issues with their bottom end by losing some piston pin and causing to explode.

The new Chevy Traverse might be something to look at which has the Super Cruise in a lower level trim for under $50k. I'd say look a new Ford Explorer, but might be too small for what you're look for.

My parents have the new Traverse and they are actually pretty bad ass. The third row is more comfortable than expected. Very nice vehicle.

I have a 2016 Navigator L, which is the long version that I bought with 75k on it for 20k. I’ve put 60k on it and have had no maintenance outside of oil changes and love it. I’ve never had 7 people in it but I think it would be fine. I take my son, his three friends and all of our golf clubs and ride comfortably. I would have preferred the Expedition, but got a good deal on this one from Amarillo that had never seen salt.

Also drove the newer model on a recent trip. They were always great on MPG but these are damn good rides beyond that. They've come a long way and are great commuter cars.

I have really loved our Hyundai Palisade. Plenty of room in the 3rd row, tons of technology that you don't find in the $50k vehicles, and you can't beat their warranty. Kia's Telluride is the sister vehicle to it.

GMC and Chevy are currently have a ton of issues on the Dynamic Fuel/Active Fuel management systems that cause their lifters to fail and issues with their transmissions in all full size SUVs and trucks. Personally I’d stay away from any of those models that are 2018 or newer.

My parents have the new Traverse and they are actually pretty bad ass. The third row is more comfortable than expected. Very nice vehicle.

I test drove one, but felt it was gutless and read about a lot of issues in the FB pages. I ended up getting a new Ford Explorer.
