New all electric Cadillac Escalade IQ

I have never understood spending a lot of money on cars, but then again I’m sure it’s hard to figure out the best way to get to the micropenis convention
That's sort of relative.

My sister would never spend what I do on a vehicle. She saves money and pays cash for cars.

And I've also said no to vehicles I'd be approved to purchase or lease. Stupidly large payments for no reason. Why over extend?

There is too much money going into them for them to not be produced.

I just don't think they're close to being of value currently in my eyes. 20 years probably different story.

Guy at work has a hybrid F150 and it is nice. Has me considering it as an option whenever that comes around.

The 100% electric isn't going to be my cup of tea anytime soon though

Oh no, I 1000% agree as things stand. I just also know the limitations that the “anti-EV” (I still don’t understand why that’s a thing) crowd points at are solvable issues through innovation. And in their short existence EVs have some advantages that would make our lives all easier.

I don’t disagree with a lot of the points as things stand now, I figure I have 1 more gas truck purchase in my future. I’m just not naive enough to think those points will always be the case.

I love the idea of an electric truck if they make one within $5k of the gas version with similar towing, that gets 400 miles to a charge even in colder weather and doesn't burst into flames like dumb fuck Musk's cars do.

That being said they're at least 5 years away from that happening

It's priced between the Premium and the V-Series, so that makes sense, but I mean...who wants to spend that much on a vehicle, regardless if it's gas or electric. That's insane.
I mean, it's a Cadillac. It's a luxury SUV. It's not meant to be owned by everyone. Unfortunately, there are people rich enough that an Escalade wouldn't even be good enough for them.

How’s that different than a carriage vs a car?
How is a self-contained, internally-powered, human-controlled machine different than a box with wheels that you hook up to a horse?

So the motor being on the inside vs the outside is your answer? Fair I suppose but doesn’t negate the point.

EVs have a higher capability than gas vehicles long term. I really don’t think that’s arguable - but no, the technology isn’t there now.

I ain’t buying no electric vehicle until they improve the infrastructure of the gas stations to adopt more charging stations. Also, I need to see rules saying no politician who makes these EV requirements by a certain year cannot trade or own stock.

I do not want to be forced to buy an EV when politicians line their pockets by laws they sign and the stock they sell off afterwards.

Dude... setting aside that you ignored the 2 other things I listed... a carriage doesn't have a motor. This is like asking how is an electronic calculator different than an abacus that you can hook up to a human.

EVs have been around almost 200 years. They predate gas-powered vehicles, and have some utility. They're also still massively inferior for most types of use because energy can be more reliably, efficiently, powerfully, and plentifully stored & extracted from hydrocarbons (and without the degradation/leakage that happens with batteries).

I don't begrudge anyone trying to come up with some kind of fundamental breakthrough in electrical power & storage that makes it a more viable power source, but literally the reason we have cars powered by gas instead of electricity is because the old & inferior electricity was abandoned based on the new innovation of refined petroleum.

My problem with the horse example was he said it's already in a cycle. Well yeah the existing horses are but if we had to go back to horses from cars there'd be a whole lot more horses than there are now.

Was interesting that a horse releases the same amount of CO2 as a car. If I heard that before I forgot.

What about chariots, Jim?!

Good thing O&G is lobby-free

When the DC crowd change over all
of their vehicles to electric, convert to solar power for their homes, stop eating meat, and get rid of their gas stoves, then I’ll consider an EV….maybe.

IMO charging is a much bigger problem than the cars themselves. Even at a Tesla Supercharger, you have to sit there for fifteen minutes to get just 200 miles worth of juice. Pure electric vehicles are fine for everyday short trips around town, but it's gonna be a long time before they're practical for longer trips.
