I thought it was comical that GM's CEO cited that the right price point was critical to mass adoption of EVs going forward.

That is a lot of $ in a depreciating asset.

Classic marketing tactic. You lead with the aspirational item, knowing you won't sell many in order to elevate the status of your more affordable options. So hopefully, the buyer goes, "Holy shit, look at that Cadillac! I can't afford that, but it's so damn cool I wonder what else they have that I can afford."

There is too much money going into them for them to not be produced.

I just don't think they're close to being of value currently in my eyes. 20 years probably different story.

Guy at work has a hybrid F150 and it is nice. Has me considering it as an option whenever that comes around.

The 100% electric isn't going to be my cup of tea anytime soon though

I could see myself buying a plug-in hybrid for my next car, but probably not full electric. But last I looked, the options for plug-in hybrids were pretty meh.

In the long-term, though, electrics do have a lot of advantages in the reliability department. Not having thousands of tiny explosions going on every minute does simplify some things.

They're also a net negative in carbon emissions until you put on 80k miles
They are a net negative until 80k or when they reach 80k that's when the net negative starts?

Or gas is less carbon emissions until 80k?

To be fair they're arguably worse for the environment overall...and less safe

Will they improve, yes. Do I think it's fair to be skeptical or critical to drive improvements - yes.

The only difference in the slope of the lines is electricity produced by renewable energy. So roughly 1/3 less. So this is saying that it is the same amount of CO2 emissions for electricity as the vehicle running on gas. I don't believe that's the case.
