So you're telling me the 2nd half was 18 attempts to 2?

For a team that on average gives up 13ish attempts again, 4th fewest in the country, to nearly double that is maddening. OF COURSE we would have more than our average - against an athletic offense + down 2 main players = tired guys in worse positions than normal. But to nearly DOUBLE our average AND have that discrepancy is wild to me.

But this isn't the reason we lost. It just adds to the frustration.

We lost because we made 2 baskets the last 6 minutes of the game. That's it. Worn down scorers that just couldn't get it to drop.

Correct.

IMO, we lost the game in the first 10 minutes of the 2H. We missed 4 or 5 bunnies, with 3 or 4 of them uncontested. Cale slipped on an out-of-bounds play, Berke missed 3 and IIRC, Sam missed one. Berke's were the most damaging as 2 of them were point blank misses. I sent @kaz36 a text about the bunnies during the game when we were up 6 or so.

Were any of the calls against NU NOT fouls...? I can't really think of one that wasn't a foul. I also think we got away with some contact on drives that could have been called. NU didn't press the issue on the offensive end to get into the bonus. I get why, but it cost them at the end of the game. Settled for too many 3s early in the second half.

Valid point, and I believe 3 of them called on us were bullshit. It wasn't just fouls called on us, but fouls not called on Michigan.

Sandfort was pulled down from the waist in the 2H, causing a turnover (no foul). Lawrence was hacked on that breakaway around the 6ish minute mark of the 2H. No call on Sam getting bulldozed.

And I won't even start with the physicality they had on our ball screens, holding & pushing out our screeners. Cadeau is a little bitch and had at least 8 fouls that weren't called. What he was allowed to do for 30+ minutes is bullshit. Must've felt bad he had 8 turnovers.

Biggest positive from this game was Leo Curtis coming and showing legit development already. It's clear he's been playing hard against a great team in practice since his arrival. They honestly can rely on him in March.
His defensive switches were far better than early in the year. I’m excited to see him develop.

The amount of times we got hooked, dragged down, and then called for the foul was maddening.

The and 1 called against Sam on the 3 was wild to me

Cale getting called for contact going up for that rebound side by side against 7'4 Mara was wild to me before there was any possession- I have a theory that any non-shooting contact foul shouldn't be a thing if you're giving up a WHOLE FOOT to someone. But even without that theory, I thought that was as ticky tack a foul you're going to see.

But yes - the non calls were even more maddening.

The officials are basically penalizing him for making a basketball play by calling something similar to undercutting an offensive player who's driving to the basket. Its almost like they're suggesting Jacobsen is not allowed to box him out because Mara is too tall.

After watching it again, Curtis has exposure & I'll put money down Purdue will abuse him. Too many times he stayed on the hedge too long which impacted our rotation. One of Purdue's staples is high pick with a tight roll downhill, so I expect Painter is licking his chops on this one. We haven't done it much this season, but I wouldn't be surprised if Loesner goes zone, or alternates some type of junk defense, if we need to use Curtis against Purdue.

A lot of teams don't/won't go inside enough, whereas Purdue will feed TKR & their 2 bigs non-stop.

I dont think Curtis will have THAT role with Mast and Frager back

I will double down your money and suggest Curtis won't play much vs. Purdue until the last few minutes. I think Nebraska is going to kick the shit out of Purdue. There were red flags about this team before the 3 game losing streak. Check out their last 7 games:

8 point win over Washington at home. 1 possession game with 1 minute to go.
8 point win over Penn State at home. 2 possession game with 1 minute to go.
7 point win over Cockeye at home. Trailed most of the game.
5 point win at USC. Were down by 20 at one point.
2 point loss at UCLA.
6 point loss to Illinois at home.
5 point loss at Indiana.

Braden Smith is terrific. Matt Painter is an excellent coach, and that program is elite. But this current team is getting way too much credit for beating Bama and Texas Tech before Thanksgiving.

To make a long story short, I think the Huskers blow out Purdue in Lincoln.

The Sandfort and Lawrence plays would’ve been pretty soft calls IMO, but reasonable minds can disagree.

Going 0-11 from 3 and no FGs for 4 min was the loser IMO

There's mention of it in this very thread, which is why I replied. I even mentioned it in a different thread last night. I will not be surprised if Curtis gets minutes to spell Mast, over Garcia coming in then pushing Berke to the 5.

A 7-man rotation (starting 5 plus Cale & Braden) will be very difficult in the next 10 games. We have to have an 8th give us some minutes, even if it's 3-4 minutes per game.

I'll add, which I don't think has been discussed, but I think Mast is physically worn down a little. It's a grind in the B1G.

That will be fine with me, hence why I said Painter will abuse him.

Zero interest in the rest of your post. Purdue has earned where they're at, and I will agree they're currently struggling.

Undervalued point and you can see it with some teams right now...depth, and lack of it, really starts to show this time of year.

whoever that ref was that was yuckin' it up with Cadoosh, patting him on the back and chest, he should be fired. If you rewatch the game or happened to see, his face when he saw the camera on him was priceless

This is where not having Uugie is going to start showing. The guys spelling Mast simply don't have the same impact that Uugie would if he were healthy.

Yup...if this team were 100% healthy across the board we'd have that depth that would likely carry us to the Final 4, just gotta hope we get Mast and BF back 100% and don't suffer anymore flu, etc.
