I understand we don’t have the NIL support but the fact that we can’t shoot FT, turn the ball over nonstop and just get beat on boards due to pure effort are reasons to drive me nuts. Those are things D1 basketball players should be able to do. Both our point guards shot free throws worse than most centers. Too many people that can’t shoot.

we apparently don't have the NIL funds to compete for high level transfers.

And we had the funds available a year ago? Come on, man. It's not about a lack of NIL.

NIL didn't cause us to shoot 5-24 from deep (2-18 without Essegian).

NIL didn't cause Williams to turn it over, again, down 3 with :03 left in the game.

NIL didn't cause us to give up 4 3's in the 2H to a dude that had 6 total in their previous games.

NIL didn't cause us to give up 4 or 5 more offensive boards than USC averages on the season. And it didn't cause us to have 5 or 6 less than we average.

Fred has done a piss poor job in B1G play. And he should feel all the heat thrown at him.

We just aren't very good. Doesn't excuse now 5 losses in a row, but it does reflect the level of team we are. B1G play is tough, no games are gimmes. USC had a few long rangy wing types who we couldn't match up with well. Their forward hitting all those 3's was killer, of course. Overall, we struggle to get players open on offense, on defense our scheme and lack of overall talent is being exposed. B1G play will do that, the book on how to beat us is out now.

I was ok with our D not respecting the 3 in this game and going under a lot of screens. And it was working how we wanted it to despite their big hitting a couple. But if we’re going to play like that you CANNOT let their guards get down into the lane that easily. Claude was just dicing up the interior D even when we were packing the paint that is just not acceptable.

I agree. A guy like Claude just out-athleted us a lot. USC had several guys that we had a hard time checking. Our best guy for that, Brice, is being bottled up. Gary had a very good game, getting a ton of scores on paint penetration.

But we have guys like Sam, Connor and Worster trying to check NBA or near NBA level talented/sized wings. That's a tough ask. But this is the team we have.

Hindsight 20/20 but we should’ve just scrapped the PG’s all together and have Brice play point and start Conner and Juwan at 2 and 3. We needed scoring to counter disadvantages on D against those athletic wings. Also think we need to consider Morgan at 4 with Meah at 5. Morgan’s shot isn’t any worse than Berke’s but he’s at least willing to get dirty on the boards. Idk I’m at a loss rn.

We joked at the time at all the white guys we were adding but we're seeing the real-world results of it right now.

Morgan-Meah-Gary-Brice

Those guys are all fine if you had some real athletes in the 1-2-3 spots. But you don't.

And it'd be fine if we had some 6'2'' white nutter like an Ashworth (sorry) who could just run around all day and jack up 3s.....but our white guards can't even do that. We're really fucked with this personnel.

They tried Uhlis starting, he didn't work out tonight. He just can't probe the paint and score. IDK his stats at Cockeye, but I am guessing he wasn't much of a scorer.

Your proposed idea is worth a shot. Also we could have Brice, Conner, Juwan, Berke and Morgan as our starting 5. Meah does help defensively for sure, but we need some scoring punch and also need to change some stuff up. We just don't have the wing athletes to compete with many of these teams, unfortunately. And our offense is pretty much the same wheel concept, with our Center at high post as we wheel around, and it has gotten stagnant. Need some different actions.

Having a PG that’s a scoring threat from deep would solve a lot of problems. Getting Rollie when you already have a PG in Uhlis that can’t shoot still makes no sense to me.
