So the standard now is that a basketball coach at a P5 who has made the tournament twice in 30 years is now for him to make the tournament twice in three years?

Did you also think it was a smart football decision for Kansas to fire Mark Mangino because they deserved better?

If you’re placing the standard that the next guy has to make the tournament twice in his first three years at Nebraska you’re shopping outside of our budget.
I've always been of the opinion (much like with Pelini), that just because you have had success relative to your predecessors and their failures, it doesn't mean you are doing a good job and that should be the standard. Just means you are doing a better job. I like Fred and would love for him to be here long-term. If we don't make it next year, the context behind it matters with retention of Fred (i.e. poor recruiting, poor coaching, etc). But, it is really not that difficult to make the tournament. I'm of the opinion that with NIL and the transfer portal, making the dance 2 out of every 4 years should be the absolute minimum.

You're talking about a coach that is sub .500, shows no interest in recruiting and is constantly “rebuilding” his teams with no success besides 1 year? If you wanna compare him to Mangino, he would need to take us to something like an Elite 8 and then treat all of the players like shit while having an NCAA investigation. It’s not even a close comparison.

I can get behind the idea that expectations will ratchet up with Rev Share in tandem with NIL adding more resources to basketball. If the argument is that Nebraska will javelin essentially outgrown a coach like Hoiberg if he proves not to be able to get Nebraska to a tournament 2 out of every 4 years (essentially every other year) I can share that sentiment and we are in agreement.

My minimum expectation is that you are on the bubble every year and you’re playing meaningful basketball games in February and early March and you make the tournament 1 out of every 2 years. With the added resources and the idea that every game in the big ten gives you a chance to win a resume building game, I agree that the opportunity is there and all you really have to do in this conference is finish in the top half. That should be something that a Nebraska coach achieves 50% of the time.

People are mad and overreacting to the collapse this year. I’m just as pissed as anyone. But I’m not ready to burn the fucker down when it appears we’ve found a formula that will put us in the positions we want to be in February.

Biggest improvement that needs to be made with Hoiberg’s team is January. We were horrid there in 23 and this year we were inexcusably bad. Both of those timeframes cost his teams post season play.

For a guy who’s put together 3 straight teams capable of making the tournament almost entirely from the portal, it’s very interesting you say he shows no interest in recruiting. Whatever he’s done from a player acquisition standpoint from 2022 to now has worked pretty well for Nebraska basketball standards.

Guess we are on pace with every other year besides getting Griesel. Annoying seeing other schools getting croots or at least having visits. Sandfort our only visit so far?

On pace yes but keep in mind, we didn't play in the post-season in 2022 or 2023 so no interruptions hosting guys. When they visited would give us a better idea but I didn't have time to check them all.

I don't know who's been on campus besides PS. @Cowboy Kermit can you answer Dells question?

Do we get our first croot today?
