I don't like the sounds of that.Robins comments on NIL/Rev Share
I’ve been asked countless times about Nebraska men’s basketball’s NIL budget for this season and where it stood relative to the rest of the Big Ten. I continue to hear that the Huskers were around $2-2.5 million (though I’ve yet to get a concrete number).
I always assumed that it was roughly middle of the pack in the conference, but I’ve heard recently that it was probably closer to the bottom third of the league. Teams like Indiana were pushing $6 million this year, while Minnesota was likely at the bottom at $1.1 million.
***Everyone’s roster budget will obviously increase once the rev share money hits this summer.
Right now, I’d expect Nebraska to be in the $6 million range when all is said and done. That’s assuming NU devotes roughly $3.5 million to hoops, and 1890 similarly supplements that with around $2.5 million.
Compare that to Indiana, though, which will likely give new head coach Darian DeVries a blank check this year. This week, an IU source told me he expected the Hoosiers’ roster budget to push eight figures.
Maryland recently received a whopping $10 million donation for men’s basketball from an anonymous booster.
Minnesota is expected to hire Colorado State’s Niko Medved as its next head coach. With that, I heard this week that the Golden Gophers plan to give Medved substantially more financial support than they did for Ben Johnson.
I was told UM pledged $6 million between rev share and NIL to Medved’s staff this season.
Long story short, Nebraska will have more money next season. So will everyone else. In some cases, NU’s conference peers could nearly double its budget.
Thoughts @Cowboy Kermit, @Driveway Jordan, @PonyBoy and others?
What sucks is that sports are now less about sports and more about deep pockets. There has always been a financial component to athletics where certain teams and areas had economic benefits but it was in the background.I don't like the sounds of that.
We need significant boosters that are loyal to this state and university. Sucks that our alumi base is so small and seemingly not mega wealthy overall.
It'd be real cool if we'd nut the fuck up and actually act like big boys who want to be a player
Not sure if this is sarcastic? Nutting up = $$$It'd be real cool if we'd nut the fuck up and actually act like big boys who want to be a player
You got 15 mil to drop?
I have $15?Not sure if this is sarcastic? Nutting up = $$$
If you don't have the $$ to be in the upper crust, what's the answer?
