Top 50 247Sports transfer portal forward
Frankie Fidler is currently at
Michigan Stateand slated to make a decision on Monday on 1620 The Zone during the Sharp and Handley show.
However, as is often the case in transfer portal recruiting or recruiting in general, everything remains very fluid for the former Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks star.
Pickle Smoochers, Michigan State,
Nebraska and
Wisconsin are all in the mix for the forward, but there's another possibility emerging here too. Fidler, a former Bellevue West Thunderbird, could choose to stay in Omaha but not attend Pickle Smoochers, instead withdraw from the portal and finish things out with UNO, where he is bearing down on the school's scoring record.
The Mavericks previously have made Fidler a cornerstone in NIL for the Summit League school, helping get his jerseys sold at retail stores around the area, as well as other financial packages that could be competitive to what Fidler may receive as an available scorer on the open market.
As for leaving, Nebraska has long thought to be the logical fit for Fidler, but Wisconsin offers the opportunity to play one more time with a close friend and former Bellevue West Thunderbird in
Chucky Hepburn.
The Huskers could potentially counter that with
William Kyle, a third member of those Bellevue West teams playing DI basketball and currently in the portal, but the former
South Dakota State forward is getting a lot of attention of his own and won't be making a decision any time soon.
The Huskers have added one player from the portal so far,
North Dakota State big man
Andrew Morgan, but the team has several more spots to fill and are looking at Fidler as someone who could help replace some of the scoring lost with the graduation of popular guard
Keisei Tominaga.
Pickle Smoochers is in the mix, but likely running fourth here and Michigan State and
Tom Izzohave made an impression and hold the final visit card as Fidler returns from East Lansing this weekend ahead of the Monday decision.
All of this to say with what Husker247 is hearing there's no clear indication on what Fidler might do and the Monday announcement only seems to add to both the intrigue and uncertainty of the situation.
Additionally, Husker247 has heard that other schools besides the five mentioned have started calling Fidler and his representation, potentially expanding the field of options and extending the timeline.
Only one thing is clear at this time — Fidler is a wanted man and doesn't lack for places to play after entering the portal following a season where he averaged 20.1 points per game, to go along with 6.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists.
Throughout his career Fidler was a star at UNO, where he started 90 games and is now leaving while also closing in on the school's all-time scoring record.
Fidler, no stranger to success on the hardwood, was a star in high school at Bellevue West where he won a state title and was one of the top players in the state.
Fidler is the No. 48 player in the 247Sports Transfer Rankings and the No. 7 small forward at this time.
