Nebrasketball 2024-25 Roster Ins/Outs

From being in Trilly's discord, it sounds like there might be some big names entering the portal after the dead period and/or after Final Four weekend/National Championship game. He said usually this weekend is when things start to pop.

And FWIW - it looks like Wake got a PF transfer addition today... unsure how that impacts Kyle's interest there.

He’s gone. It’s hard to see him having a better season than he did last year.
I kinda see it as a plus, getting Payne and Morgan plus 1-2 more post players would be a massive upgrade.
Slide Gary over to the 3 and Brice to the 2.
Needs to find some guard and wings then you are set.

Don’t think they’ll be suffering long if they do the right thing and hire Niko Medved should Tang decide to dip
I can’t remember if it was you who mentioned his name early in the season when we lost to Minnesota. That would be a great hire for anyone

Minnesota transfer Pharrel Payne emerging as a priority target for Nebraska

As Nebraska works to restock its 2024-25 roster, Fred Hoiberg and his staff have contacted several new targets over the past few weeks.
Among those is a familiar name for the Huskers.
HuskerOnline confirmed that NU held an in-home visit with Minnesota transfer forward Pharrel Payne on Tuesday.
The 6-foot-9, 255-pound sophomore played in 32 games, with 19 starts, for the Golden Gophers this season. He averaged 10.0 points on 60% shooting, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks.
That included scoring 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting with four boards and two blocks over a season-high 35 minutes in UM’s win over Nebraska in December.

Payne’s departure was significant for Minnesota, and numerous high-major programs immediately reached out once he entered the NCAA Transfer Portal.

The Huskers were among the first to do so, and things have quickly progressed. After meeting Payne in Minneapolis, NU is close to locking in a visit to Lincoln.
A source told HuskerOnline that Payne planned to take around four or five visits, with Nebraska likely to be one. Those trips should begin after the NCAA recruiting dead period ends on Thursday, April 11.
The Huskers currently have seven available scholarships to fill. On Wednesday, they hosted North Dakota State big man Andrew Morgan on an unofficial visit. Morgan will decide between NU and Minnesota in the coming days.
NU also made the final four for Omaha transfer Frankie Fidler. The former Bellevue West standout visited campus last week and is down to Nebraska, Pickle Smoochers, Wisconsin, and Michigan State.
Pheldarius’ boy?

Do what you want with it. Guy at Dean's started a thread.

Picture was taken while he was standing right by Mast.

Mast is back!

Talked to Rienk tonight at Slam Dunk/3 pt contest and he’s coming back for sure! And said “Fred’s got a plan in the works”.

Let's see how serious Nebrasketball NIL really is. Here is my dream scenario - as I see it, we are losing 9 players (4 graduates and 5 transfers) while adding two HS kids. That means we are looking at 7 transfers. Imagine adding AJ Storr, Connor Hickman, Frankie Fidler, Andrew Morgan, Omaha Biliew, Pharrell Payne and William Kyle III.

Next years roster looks something like:

Brice Williams
AJ Storr
Juwan Gary
Reink Mast
Pharrell Payne

6th Man - Frankie Fidler

Omaha comes off the bench to replicate Juwan's defense and energy. Morgan can be Mast 2.0, Kyle III backs up Payne, and Ulis and Hickman can be our backcourt bench.

....a man can dream....

This would have us batting 1.000

With Mast back, I’d take any two of Kyle, Payne, and Morgan. I actually think Kyle might be a bit better than Payne. Either of the two solves a rebounding problem that we had at times against teams with more athletic bigs. Add Morgan to that list and we got immediately tougher all the way around on the boards.

You're probably right with going 2/3 on those bigs. And in all reality, if Fidler is in the mix, I'd rather use another spot to address guard play.

Who's on your non-big wish list TC?

There’s been almost no news on guards at all outside of Fiddler and the kid from Bradley.

We lost -

Keisei
Lawrence
Wilcher
Rice

We add (so far) -

High school kid from Wisconsin
Uhlis (should be clear)

We are after -

Kid from Bradly and…..?

This is where it gets muddy and it will be fun to follow. This team in 24-25 will look different than last years. Different isn’t bad. But I think if you’re thinking we are looking to replace these pieces 1 for 1 you’re mistaken.

To me, the type of guard we can have is going to depend on the bigs we end up with. If you get Kyle/Payne, Omaha, and Morgan to go with Mast you don’t have to worry too much about guards having to play defense too long. The reason I say that is because you can sell out to Chase a team off the 3 point line and if you get beat they’ll have to deal with shot blockers.

That being said, Fiddler and the kid from Bradley would be more than fine for me.
