Game Thread Nebraska v Cockeye (Heroes Trophy Game) - Friday, November 28 11:00am CBS

There are legitimate criticisms of the scheme, but the frequent flyers here frequently blame John Butler for things out of his control as the playcaller in addition to being way to focused on the outcome of plays instead of the process.

The 3-down front on 2 yard line is bad. The bad fits against draw, especially the big draw in the first half where we pressured into a draw, have been bad.

But consistently I see John Butler getting this defense answers and the players not executing.

More specifically, I’m annoyed when people’s instant reflex upon a negative result is to blame the playcaller and scheme when often there’s blatantly a player not doing his job.
Butler is schematically savvy, but his players being out of place constantly is a reflection on his teaching and implementation. If your players are too retarded to run your defense then make it simpler.

Dude, if you want to date Butler, you’re just going to have to reach out directly I don’t think he reads these things on here. just ask him i’m sure he’d say yes.

@HuskerGarrett you can get rid of my happy ending society badge.

Completely sober and admitting we are a poverty team with a poverty culture and poverty roster.

So a DC shouldn’t be held responsible for not correcting behavior of a player?

That’s like telling a parent your kid is a piece of shit but you called the right plays. Nothing else you could have done day to day to correct it
This is not what I’m saying, but feel free to strawman my claim.

Like most things, the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Instant Butler haters like yourself overcorrect on Butler hate when it’s been clear since the start of the season the front 7 has below average P4 personnel.

You've just outlined the problem with Butler: he is good at scheming things up, terrible at football fundamentals. He didn't need to worry about players being fundamentally sound in the NFL.

You need a DC that drills them in the fundamentals - buck stops with him.

There is no spinning giving up 40 points (thus far) in Lincoln to a shit Cockeye team.

I’m ok with Rhule moving on at this point. He took us from a f level team to a c. I don’t see him taking us past that. The record is inflated with garbage openers which we did need to get momentum. But the team is poorly coached, they can’t manage a clock, and the players consistently play below their level and do not execute.

still love Nebraska. But this is such a sour end note on just an ok season.
