NCAA Wrestling Championships - Husker Wrestling

OK. So how are our chances of hanging on to second? National runner-up would be pretty cool. As would finishing ahead of Cockeye. 🙂
Decent. Just have to have guys keep wrestling well, obviously. The consolations could help/hurt a lot.

Here is how the National Champion team points are scored:

The lowest placing for Hardy, Lovett, Taylor, and Minto is 6th, so the team is awarded 6 team points for each of those.

If they win their semi's then the team will get another 6 automatic point (12 total) for the lowest possible 2nd place.

Neb has 4 in the semis and 5 left in consolations.

OSU has 4 in the semis as well, but only 1 left in consolations.

Nebraska has an advantage right now because in the consolations. If a few guys can win through to get placement points and possible bonus points.

At the NCAA Championships, a wrestler accumulates points for his team through three different avenues. Here is a closer look at those point opportunities:

Advancement Points
  • One team point is awarded for each match won in the championship bracket and half a point in the consolation bracket.
  • For those who receive a bye, one point is awarded in the championship bracket and half a point in the consolation bracket if that wrestler wins in the next immediate round.
  • Advancement points are not awarded in the placement matches.

Placement Points
  • Team points are awarded for a wrestler earning an All-America finish. The final team scoring for each individual placement:
    • 16 team points for first
    • 12 team points for second
    • 10 team points for third
    • 9 team points for fourth
    • 7 team points for fifth
    • 6 team points for sixth
    • 4 team points for seventh
    • 3 team points for eighth
  • Team points are awarded as soon as they are secured. For example, a wrestler in the finals will have the 12 points for second place already included in the team score. If he wins, then he would earn four more team points for the first-place finish plus 1, 1.5 or 2.0 points if he were to win with bonus points.

Bonus Points
  • In addition to advancement and placement points, wrestlers also earn extra team points through individual bonus-point efforts. The team scoring for each type of match result:
    • Two team points for a fall, forfeit, default, disqualification and flagrant misconduct
    • One and a half team points for a technical fall
    • One team point for a major decision
    • No extra team points for a decision

In the consultation blood round:
Smith faces 6th seed Jett strickenberg of West Virginia

Van dee faces rini from Indiana who he’s beaten once this year

Pinto faces 5 seed ruiz from Cornell who beat pinto at the beginning of the season

Allred faces 15th seed fishback from nc state

McDaniel will fsce 24 sollers from Indiana. McDaniels has beat him twice both by major decisions

Pretty favorable for the most part

Semifinals
Hardy vs #5 happel from UNI. Happel beat Hardy in a close match early this year

#2 Lovett and penn states #3 Van Ness square off again in what easily could have been a finals major.

#3 Taylor will face #2 sharpio from Cornell. Sharpio is 19-1 with his only lost coming his first match where he defaulted

#12 face undefeated #1 mesenbrink from penn state.

I say 2-2

Smith scares me. When he’s one he’s easily one of the best. But this weekend he hasn’t seem to be on.

Same with pinto. He can beat most anyone but yesterday was off
Yea and they have the two toughest draws, unfortunately. Bard to say if there are some nagging injuries at this point in the year or not.
Getting 2 into the finals would be great, and anything beyond would be incredible. Minto will have to pull out some serious magic to have a chance.
Taylor is capable, but will need to be his best. Hardy and Ridge have kicked it into an entirely different gear thus far, so hopefully they can keep rolling

We should’ve let Lauridson wrestle this year, I can’t stand watching smith. He’s way too passive for me, doesn’t try to score points.
