MothaFuckin N. Dakota Game Thread

Based on me losing hope in the Frost era, I will bet negative.
I can see both.

They showed some resolve down the stretch. Which I could see providing some positive emotions.

I could also see an stretch between him and Whipple.

Neither one would surprise me.

My perception was, If I'm going down, I'm sure as fuck not going down without it being on my terms. So fuck this clipping my nuts and not calling plays, give me this shit Whip.

Should it have been roughing the passer on the Thompson play though? Looked like the hit was late.
Should have been the death penalty for the defender iyam. Our QB gets a broken jaw again this year and I'm going to cry.

Fwiw I was told Frost didn't call plays in the second half, but no doubt Frost had an impact on the play calling.

Which if we get frosts run game with whips pass and discipline I'm all for that.

Was in a group chat with some buddies and they were using that example of resolve and pushing through and saying it was "progress". I just flat out said even in shitty times like these, my standard for Nebraska Football is still to wipe our dicks with FCS teams and that's how it should always be. They disagreed with the context.

It is progress for a team that had lost 7 straight 1 score games (or whatever the fucking number is).

It also is below the standard of curb stomping FCS teams in the 1st half and clearing your bench in the 2nd half.

I was mildly worried about this game preseason because.... a lot of new faces 30/35 new players, 4 new coaches, you are just getting back from Ireland, etc.... then it sounds like they had a bug running through the team and they decided to lose to NW and ratchet up the pressure. This team needs to just win and figure out who they are.

I mean this is a team that lost to troy, lost to a Minnesota team with 50 some guys, lost 7 straight 1 score games, etc.... I can see this as progress, but also realize that we are at an unacceptable position.

I see both sides of it.

I don't believe that for a second. Not really doubting your source...eyes tell me different.
The guy I got it from watch Whipple and Frost during the half.... He basically said Frost wasn't talking enough to be the one calling plays and that he could tell Whipple was more active on the headset.

This guy I got that info from is fairly critical of Frost so has no reason to paint with a red brush here.

I do think Frost inserted himself on occasion and developed the 2nd half game plan.

Frost was fairly active marking up the call sheet. He was way more involved. Maybe he wasn't calling the plays...but was more of....call this...call that. Type of deal. Or maybe it was...Grant is a dude...call his fucking number more. type deal. But shit substantially changed in the 2nd half. I just have a hard time believing he wasn't making the play selections.

It was like a different offense completely.

Yeah I would agree with that based on what I was told.... Which I have always wanted Frost involved in the offense. So I am fine with it.

Also, this is what I meant when I said....

There was a point in the broadcast where the camera was on both of them right next to each other and Whipple was yelling into the headset while frost wasn't talking at all. It's encouraging if it was indeed Whipple calling the plays.

You fucking suck Ref!

Sorry. Habit.

How was Thompson's not? He's considered defenseless there correct? Helmet hit him right in the chin which I would consider head or neck area. What am I missing?

My wife and kids also say the same thing. Apparently they don't like officials either or maybe they just hate me in general.

Just because a player is hit in head or neck area, it doesn't mean it's targeting. These two are good examples of potential targetings, but the force was not directed at the head of the player. That contact was secondary or caused by the initial force (body or shoulder of defender).

Targeting on a defenseless player (rule 9-1-4) is two parts, defenseless player by rule and attacking or making forcible contact to head or neck area. Don't confuse this rule with the 9-1-3, which is lowering and leading with the crown of the helmet. That rule doesn't require a defenseless player.

He is defenseless "A player in the act of or just after throwing a pass".

Next step is the indicators.
1. Launch, player leaving his feet - not in the Thompson case
2. A crouch followed by upward thrust - not in the Thompson case.
3. Leading with the head to make forcible contact at the head or neck area - this is the one for this case. If you watch it, the chest/shoulder of defender is first contact, so he is not leading with his head.
4. Lowering of the head to make forcible contact with the crown of the helmet. The head basically is parallel to the ground - not in the Thompson case.
