Not even close to ready to write off Michigan. They're no Ohio St. They're probably going to come into Lincoln favored by less than we were against Cincinnati, and they were one play away from beating us.

What makes me less confident is.....we had a pretty clean game, won the turn over battler, held our P4 opponent to 17 pts, had WONDERFUL special teams and STILL only won by 3 points on a last second interception. I've VERY happy with the win, but to play a near perfect game and have it that close makes me feel less confident than I did before the game. I always thought if we cleaned those things up we would win most games by at least a couple of touchdowns.

I do think that false start penalty on the 1 yard line was a huge kick in the nuts in the second quarter. If we score a TD there, I think we are in the driver's seat at that point.

I feel very similar, we seem to be doing pretty well in most facets of the game, but the score is always close. Just feels like we should be scoring more points. A lot of good things in this game, but in the end it took an interception at the goal line to win it by 3. Be nice to have a comfortable lead for a change.

Probably not how you meant for it to sound, but let's not pretend they were knocking on the doorstep to the end one. That was what, a 40+ yard throw?

We’re averaging less than 23 points in 5 games with Holgorsen, which includes one 44 point performance.

In fact, the 44 against Wisconsin is the only game we’ve scored more than 20 in during that stretch. All other games are exactly 20, except for Cockeye, which was the low water mark at 10.

Not that it was better before him. It’s just not getting better with him at the helm either.

I think we’re better overall except for the one statistic that you mentioned, and that’s scoring points.

I’m a fan of complimentary football, and we’ll need it this year in spades with the defense likely taking a step back, but I’m of the opinion that we need to open things up a bit more. I’m not sure how many other teams will play the 3 deep as well as Cincinnati did against us, but I suspect we’ll see more of that for sure. We’ll have to be patient, but still figure out a way to take some shots and get more folks open in that medium to deep range.

I don’t know for sure, but I doubt many teams in the B1G are running that as a base because the Michigans/Iowas would eat them alive. If someone wants to scrap their normal system entirely and try to copy Cincy for one game, then I’d expect we’d have a lot more success.

I don’t have a lot of confidence in Venables

That's fine.

Honestly, you can look up my posts about Michigan over the Spring and Summer. I think they lose at Oklahoma all because of a true freshman starting under the lights in Norman.

The Wolverines go on to have a very good season, while Oklahoma still loses 6 or 7 games.

Truth be told, his ceiling is as a coordinator.

There’s no shame in that and it doesn’t make him a bad coach, but he’s going to struggle and get run out of Norman. Might not happen this year, but if they continue to fail to beat Texas and win double digit games, he’s toast.

You can play 3 deep’s with any base, but it does translate best/easiest in 3-3-5.
