Minchey

No I think I agree with all points you are making there. If you have really good talent around them or even a good OL, you don't need a world beater at QB.

But your last sentence is probably where we are off. I'm telling everyone right now Dylan is going to go somewhere and light it up and be a difference maker, because he will have talent around him. I think we need to get the other 10 players on the field to the level of our QB. I can think of maybe 3 or 4 guys that are ok for us to be trotting out there on offense next year to start.
I agree with that. I think that is a function of the type of QB. If you’re a pure drop back you need elite talent. If you’re a dual threat QB I don’t think you need elite talent.

I want to go on record, because I’ve taken a TON of shit the past two weeks banging the drum of getting a proven guy vice room depth, and that I’ve always thought TJ wasn’t it. I was in the minority, and got po-tay-doed relentlessly stating such. I consistently said it doesn’t matter if TJ portals because he’s never going to be the guy here.

I don’t want some revisionist history narrative that everyone was in lock step that TJ had the goods.

I have added you to my spreadsheet in the “thought TJ had the goods” column along with @BIG TONE SOPRANO

Verified at 6-foot-1 ½ and 207-pounds in June of 2022. Possesses a sturdy frame with wide shoulders and a strong lower half. Possesses growth potential to add necessary weight to his frame. Although his height would be categorized as undersized for the position, his 10-inch hands are in the 70% percentile of NFL starters.

Displays good athleticism and mobility to extend plays in and outside the pocket. Quick twitch athlete with natural avoid and escape ability. Flashes excellent pocket instincts and awareness while keeping his eyes down the field. Appears to possess a good play temperament, rarely playing rushed amidst pressure.

Possesses a quick release and strong arm capable of making every throw on the field. Exhibits natural instincts and excels on the move outside the pocket as a passer. Demonstrates the ability to consistently play with touch and anticipation, while showing the ability to throw his receivers open. An instinctive passer that has a knack for understanding how to extend plays within the pocket with his subtle athleticism and ability to keep his eyes down field as plays develop.

Although sample size as a senior was limited due to injury, he improved his completion percentage from 61% as a junior to 73% as a senior in four games. A savvy pocket passer with excellent game management skills, Minchey projects to a high level multi-year starter at the Power Five level. Has a good understanding of the position and processes the game quickly. Would not be surprised if he makes an impact sooner than later at the next level.

Has there been any buzz at all about landing spots for DR (outside of the Louisville stuff)?
This morning watched a Rivals podcast and Nakos compared Raiola to the Florida QB, not the top choices so they have to wait until the top QBs choose their home, and then they will get an offer. I thought that was interesting. Raiola thought he would name his new team and the price…or his dad did…ain’t happening.

I hope it comes out how much Dylan makes at his next stop. And I hope that number is around $1-$1.5 million.

"His job to lose" is that he's the returning QB for Nebraska. They aren't handing the keys to Minchey over him. Lateef will get first reps with the 1s. Feel pretty confident there. 99% of all serious coaches in P2 would never in a million years try to keep a kid that ended up starting for them last year and then just grab a starter who only threw 25 passes last year in mop-up duty the jobs yours.

But that makes no sense at all from Minchey's perspective. He's not going to leave his job as a backup at Notre Dame just to take a likely backup job with, frankly, a lesser team. He's gonna want to go somewhere that he's all but guaranteed to start at.

Ehh... I look at what Raiola did with the talent around him, and I would say that he underachieved.

I mean look at what happened with Key - he just had the worst year of his career with Raiola throwing to him most of the year. He went from 14 receptions over 20 yards last year to just 4 this year - two of which were against HCU, and a third was thrown by Lateef.

Who's the weak link here: Key or Raiola?

Minchey is basically taking the Dylan Raiola approach thinking he just has to beat out Heinrich Haarberg as a QB. I'm telling you there is zero chance he was promised the starting job here if Lateef is still here. He literally has zero starts under his belt and less than 30 pass attempts. Think about that... you're promising the starting job to a guy with that stat line after being in college after 3 years?

Weak link is our OL for your second question.

No one cares. Close all the football threads down. We’re a basketball school now!

Raiola.
We handcuffed the offense and growth for two years to appease a 5 star legacy

No, its not at all. Your disdain for Rhule shows up in all your replies. Just admit you hate Rhule and stop being so backhanded about it.

EDIT- Better yet, what part of the tradition coalition are you in with?

It's also hard for me to understand how the acquisition of Minchey makes sense unless they expect Minchey to start. The reason for this is that Lateef looked completely ordinary (to me, at least) in the last 3 games. I can't see any reason that they could expect Lateef to improve enough over the off-season to be an effective starter next year.

It could be they were afraid of Lateef leaving back in November. I doubt that is true in January. Frankly I doubt Lateef could transfer anywhere else where he has a better chance at playing or would get paid more than he is now. And I don't believe the staff feels he is the QB of the future.

My prediction is that the most snaps he ever plays at Nebraska in a season will be the 2025 season.

Agree! Not likely he makes what he made here. He is literally a second choice for somebody. Life has a way of humbling you. He and his dad needed it.
Agree he most likely takes a pay cut. I could be wrong but I think he ends up with a good team. If they have an elite OL, he will do well.

He’s a dime a dozen dual threat 6’1” 205 lb QBs from California that were taught how to throw routes since they were big enough to hold a football correctly. He’s Adrian Martinez that throws a little sharper but is less agile. I was never impressed either

Remember when we used to have 1 guy transfer in or out each year and it was a big deal (Frost, etc)? I really hate the way this is going. I don't even bother following high school recruiting, and I hardly know the NE roster outside the stars because it will all change again the next year. Sigh.

Erm, no, not really. Lateef only ran for 292 yards his senior year - he was much more of a pocket passer, not a dual threat guy. Martinez ran for literally five times as many yards his last year of HS football.

Even better. Dime a dozen pocket passer. Half as valuable
