>> What's the difference with interim DC Bill Busch now in charge? Safety Marques Buford Jr. said Busch is trying to "make it so we can get our feet set in the ground and just be ready to play."
Busch is trying to simplify things now that he's in charge. That should help with the issue of the players not being ready for the snap.
>> Buford on two true freshmen who were on the two-deep this week, safety Jaeden Gould and Hartzog:
"Those two guys have grown up pretty fast," Buford said.
>> Buford says the last week of practice has featured a lot of competition.
"Everyone knows, even myself, that nobody's spot is secured," the safety said.

>> Per punter Brian Buschini, his sprained ankle is still a little sore from having to make a tackle against Oklahoma. He said he'll be good for Saturday.
>> Buschini said he got to watch the Cockeye vs. Rutgers football game from last weekend. That matchup featured a good punting battle between the Cockeyes' Tory Taylor and the Scarlet Knights' Adam Korsak.
"It was really entertaining," Buschini said of the game, which Cockeye won.
>> Buschini said he's a blackbelt in Taekwondo. That has helped him on football fields, too, he said, teaching him to not be afraid of contact.

Nebraska interim head coach Mickey Joseph met with media on Tuesday morning at Memorial Stadium as the Huskers prepare for Indiana.

— Joseph said he has stressed to his team that getting bay into Big Ten play is a reset for his team. “Our kids have to look at this as a fresh start,” he said.

— Indiana will try and push tempo against Nebraska’s defense. Joseph noted that last week the Hoosiers ran 104 plays against Cincinnati, and it will be key for Nebraska’s defense to get play calls in quickly from the sidelines. Joseph said interim defensive coordinator Bill Busch has eliminated some things from Nebraska’s defensive playbook, and that one word from the sidelines has to signify the coverage, front and other aspects of the call against Indiana’s fast-paced offense.

— Ethan Piper will start at left guard, Joseph confirmed. He said senior Kevin Williams underwent surgery after suffering a high ankle sprain and will be out for another two to three weeks.

— Nebraska’s players had Thursday, Friday and Saturday off before returning to Lincoln on Sunday to prepare for Indiana.


— Joseph said Busch has meshed well with Nebraska’s other defensive assistants.

“They’re all working together and working together well,” Joseph said of the defensive assistants. “They’ve been meshing, and sometimes it’s hard to do that. Bill is sharp, he’s a really good football coach.”

— Joseph and the Husker staff spent the bulk of the week on the road recruiting. Joseph noted that he attended a practice and two games on Saturday. He said he also got a chance to see old friends and family, noting that he saw his father.

“Everybody wants a job. Everybody had answers,” Joseph joked. “It was good to see old friends, good to see old coaches, but everybody had all the answers and everybody wanted a job. Typical New Orleans.”

— Joseph said he’s “real confident” in running back Gabe Ervin Jr., climbing into a bigger role following the season-ending injury to Ajay Allen. He commended Ervin for not sulking or getting down after he didn’t see many carries earlier in the season.

— On defense Joseph said freshmen Jaden Gould and Malcolm Hartzog will get a chance to play this week after appearing in the new depth chart release on Monday.

“We’re going to go through those young kids and see if they can get it done,” Joseph said. “You gotta keep encouraging them, and let them know that when their time comes, they need to be ready. Then you have to put them in the game.”

— Nebraska listed Omar Brown as a nickel on this week’s depth chart. Joseph said Brown has good cover skills as a former corner and isn’t afraid to “stick his face in the fan” and tackle in the run game.

“We wanted to get him closer to the ball,” Joseph said.

— Joseph was asked if he watched any college football on Saturday during Nebraska’s bye. He quickly noted he was out recruiting and was concerned about Nebraska.

“I don’t have time to watch other people play,” he said.
