Quick hits from Mickey Joseph Cockeye press conference

One more game is left in Nebraska's 2022 football season.
For most, the season can't end soon enough. But others, like the Husker players, are excited about the opportunity to ruin Cockeye's season and want one last shot at taking down the Cockeyes. If they beat the Huskers, they'll be in the Big Ten championship. If they don't and Purdue beats Indiana, the Boilermakers go.
Nebraska, however, hasn't beaten Cockeye since 2014. It's been Hawkeye dominance. The Huskers have lost the last seven in this series.
On Monday, the Huskers released their updated depth chart, with the lone change coming at safety following Marques Buford Jr.'s injury against Wisconsin.
Tuesday, Nebraska interim head coach Mickey Joseph and some players met with the media to discuss the matchup, which will take place Friday at 3 p.m. Here are the quick hits:

Mickey Joseph

>> Joseph said the team has "one mission left" and knows it will give Cockeye everything it has for four quarters.
>> What has Joseph seen from Cockeye's offense? It's similar to almost every other team in the west division, outside of Purdue.
>> What has Joseph seen from Cockeye's elite defense? There aren't a ton of transfers on it. Almost every player has been grown and developed in the program. That's what Joseph is trying to do at Nebraska.
>> What's Joseph's plan after the Cockeye game? "I'm going to be on my couch until I get a phone call," the coach said. He'll spend time with family, like everyone else.
>> What lessons have Joseph learned throughout this interim process?
"I learned to stay off the Twitter," he joked.
Jospeh also learned the program needs to adapt to the conference it plays in, and play the way the other teams in the conference does. Joseph said that was one of the first things his brother, Vance, told him to do when he got the job.
>> Joseph said one of the things he's proud of this season was being approachable as head coach.
>> Joseph on the Cockeye game: "They're going to be up for it. They're going to play four quarters."
>> Joseph said Donovan Raiola has done a good job with the hand he was dealt along the offensive line, which lost two starters in Teddy Prochazka and guard Nouredin Nouili.
>> Casey Thompson was a little rusty against Wisconsin, Joseph said. The quarterback threw the ball well on Tuesday, the coach added.
>> "Casey wants to stay here at the University of Nebraska," Joseph said. The coach said there haven't been any discussions about Thompson's future at Nebraska.
>> Joseph was asked about recruiting worthy in-state players: "When you look at the kid and he's a no-brainer, don't dance around it and pull the trigger," the coach said.

Casey Thompson

>> Thompson was asked what he thinks about Nebraska's program as a whole. The quarterback said Nebraska needs to have a winning mindset and culture. It comes down to elite players, elite coaching and, at the end of the day, the players need to execute better when it's time to.
Thompson also added everyone on the team needs to be pulling the rope in the same direction.
>> Would Thompson like to coach one day? From an Xs-and-Os standpoint, yes. He loves that part of the game. But he's also seen what coaches have to go through on a daily basis, and that makes him unsure.
>> Thompson completed a Master's in Applied Science, and wants to open a sports facility in Oklahoma, Texas and maybe Nebraska that will focus on athletic training, both mind and body, that will have a daycare
>> Thompson had respect for Joseph before. But that's grown since Joseph has handled the interim head coach pressure. The two Huskers are very tight after going through this season.
>> Thompson said he'll be sad once the Cockeye game is over. "It's definitely going to eat at me," when he's on the couch watching the bowl games and especially the College Football Playoff.

Caleb Tannor

>> How has Joseph done leading the team? Tannor said it was a tough job to step into, but he's handled it very well.
>> Tannor said he "loves this place" and didn't know this Friday's game against Cockeye would be the 56th game of his career.
>> Tannor said he's battled through back-to-back shoulder injuries earlier in his career. But he's always tried to fight and play through the injuries in his career.
>> Tannor was asked about Husker fans. "I've got love for them, that's all I know." he said.
>> This is Tannor's last chance to leave this place on a good note, he said. Also, he obviously wants to beat Cockeye, something he's never done in his career.
>> "We're here to ruin their chances," Tannor said of Cockeye's bid to play in the Big Ten championship with a win.
