There remains a chance that
Casey Thompson will play and perhaps start for Nebraska against Minnesota on Saturday.
Thompson suffered an injury to his throwing arm against Illinois last weekend and missed the final 6:30 of the first half and the entire second half. After taking some time to recover, though, Thompson has been back practicing this week.
There remains the likelihood that Thompson will not play, but he has not been ruled out for Saturday.
“Casey (practiced) a little bit (on Wednesday),” Huskers interim coach
Mickey Joseph said on Thursday. “
Chubba (Purdy) took most of the reps – him and
Logan (Smothers) – but Casey went a little bit yesterday. We’ve got a game-time decision on Casey to see if he’s gonna be able to go.
“He’s trying to convince me that he’s gonna play, but you know my rule as far as injuries: He’s gotta tell me that he's ready to go. But then I gotta have enough sense to say you're ready or you're not. He's gonna tell me he's ready to go, and right now I know that Casey is telling me he's ready to go. ... He's a veteran kid who could probably play without the reps at practice."
Joseph also expressed that he feels more confident in Purdy to be the Huskers' starter because Purdy has now been taking a lot more reps at practice.
Other Updates
On OL Broc Bando and WR Omar Manning
"They should be available," Joseph said.
On the new athletics facilities
"Anytime you have a facility of that magnitude, I think it's great for the university and for the program and it helps you with your players because everything's in house," Joseph said. "It also helps you in recruiting because kids wanna see nice things. That's their generation. I think it gives you a lot of energy moving forward in the future.
"We don't really talk about it with the (current) players. The recruits walk through there and see it, but I don't think the (current players) really talk about it. Because the facilities we have in there right now are nice."
