I would say the Frost contract and extension was worse. Frost is as bad as Willie Taggart. The guy Frost fan boys use to make fun of all the time.

Tucker will probably still end up making less money per win than Frost before they fire him at some point down the road. The two year extension was worse for sure with Frost. The guy never won shit. As far as being locked into a coach I agree the Tucker contract is bad.

Part of me doesn't blame MSU. The modal outcome for a new coaching hire is they suck and MSU had a guy with a great pedigree who won a bunch of games in a season. The bet might not work out for them in the long run, but when the price of admission nowadays is like $30 million for a lightly experienced coordinator as a HC, $50 mil for a Sun Belt HC, and $80 million for Mario Cristobal, I kind of get why they did it.

You started a whole new conversation, the point is that they had a fluke year with the portal last year and paid $100 million to keep their notable school hopping whore in place, now they're having a mediocre start to the year and are major underdogs at home

This topic will be pointless if they end up being good again but it looks terrible right now

Nice that Frost is eclipsed by Tucker for $ to failure ratio. Well maybe not statistically, but according to court of public opinion.

Learnings from Frost and Tucker you ask? 1) they were given way too much $ up front. $ corrupted them and they prioritized a life style of the rich and famous over their profession. That is fact for Frost, and I’m guessing I’m right for Tucker.
2) neither had a sustained track record of winning as HC to demand the amount of $ they were given. In both cases “one day of sun, doesn’t make a summer”. Meaning one really good season doesn’t make a great coach.

I get the attraction of paying a coach “everything and the kitchen sink” but only if they have won big games (against ranked teams), multiple 9-10 win seasons over a reasonable timeframe. At least backend load the contract schedule that they have work their area off and show results for 3 years then by all means give them up he bank.

There are only two who fit the profile. Urban and Bob Stoops. Neither are coming here, so I hope we are willing to pay a lot, but smart enough to have the really big $ kick in after 3 really solid years.

Mel tucker started so strong he rebuild wise that they had to extend him. Bigger schools were going after him.
That said, I’m glad he is failing. Msu is the most forgettable school in the big ten other than Buttgers.
