And here's the issue with Mickey staying on...

Shouldn't you be meeting with RHULE to see what the future holds both for yourself and for Mickey? Then discussing with Mickey if he's leaving but you believe he has your best interest in mind?
This is my worry about Mickey staying on. Rhule is the HC and players feel like they should be talking to Mickey. One way or the other, we need to get it sorted out soon.

In terms of his draft prospects....

I kind of understand talking to Mickey. MJ was his coach for most of last year. Rhule isn't going to be able to give him good advice on this. Rhule would have only had the absolute minimum of exposure to Mathis....like maybe YouTube videos. Mathis isn't shunning Rhule, he actually doesn't have anyone else to really go to but Mickey.

Oh man - I completely disagree. Would be a pretty easy meeting with Rhule. Go something like this:

OM: Coach, I'd like to meet with you about a couple of items. I am weighing my options of entering the draft, staying at Nebraska, or transferring. What are your thoughts on my prospects?

HCMKR: Thanks for asking Ochaun. I'll definitely spend some time watching your cut-ups and we can circle back when I can have a more informed discussion on your specific strengths vs deficiencies that NFL Scouts will pick apart. I can call some of the scouts I know in the league and specifically those that we had at Carolina. I'll be honest with you - I was high on you coming out of high school. I think you have a ton of potential, just as you did coming out of HS. Truthfully - I was just in an NFL organization, and yours wasn't a name that was on our radar at the time. I will say, I think you can contribute here and we could use your skill set. 1 year could do wonders for your draft stock. We are bringing in top notch assistants that I'd humbly say are better than the coaching you were receiving. We can put together a plan on how to move you up draft boards and highlight your skillset while contributing on, what I believe, will be a really effective defense next year.

WHY WOULDN'T YOU WANT TO ASK AN NFL HEAD COACH ABOUT HIS THOUGHTS ON YOUR DRAFT STOCK?!

we all feel as if Rhule is professional enough to not let the soap opera impact day to day operations, right?
I don’t think that’s the point. Is Mickey professional enough to stay in his lane as an assistant and not undermine, even unintentionally (I think he is)? Are the athletes professional enough to not run to their old Head if they don’t like the answer the new Head gives them?

It’s complex. I guess my question is more about “Can they” VS “should they” - seems like an unnecessary natural place for drama to live. Could be wrong though. Maybe they are all in lockstep. If so, great!

Couldn't agree more. It's about Mickey and how he internalizes Matt being hired. Will Mickey elevate Rhule in the player's eyes?

Mickey seems like the type that will respect Matt and his position - but what the hell do I know?
