I know some things to be true within the situation at LC and IWCC.

First, in CB there are probably more Husker fans than there are Cockeye fans. That part of CB specifically really is either Nebraska or ISU to be fair. So it’s more likely than not that a lot of these kids would have been Huskers had we chosen to recruit them excluding Shudak (kicker) and Duggan (I don’t think this one was ever gonna work out our way). I text @Faux Sean Callahan about Logan Jones during the game Friday who had offers from Cockeye and Wisconsin to play OL but not us.

Second, I know for a fact (heard it straight from coaches at IWCC) that Kammrad and IWCC hated when the first think Chinander wanted to talk about with their kids was measurables. The line I continued to hear from them was “You mean to tell me our kids are good enough and big and strong enough to play in any other P5 conference and for other teams in yours but they aren’t for you?”

Third, IWCC basically refused to deal with Held. They thought he was a joke and still do. The Dom Watt situation was what initially fueled that fire, but they also were less and less impressed with him the more they saw.

NU was the leader for Duggan until he met Mario.

How much of this is getting the juice for the squeeze? I mean, I would like to have every good kid in Nebraska stay, but is it worth sending out coach after coach and spending that much time just to help ensure they stay in state? Would the time spend doing that be better spent recruiting other hotbeds? I don't know what the correct answer is.

Any FL or GA prospect is going to be the same amount of time - actually MORE time due to: travel, recruiting vs SEC teams, calling, calling, calling, RE-recruiting after Auburn steals your recruit, etc. Then you've lost a fair amount of the FL recruits anyway.

The juice for the squeeze argument strongly favors the 250 mile radius kids.

Not really a whole lot of offer worthy players in the 250 radius. Still have to recruit GA, LA, FL, etc

What’s the story on Duggan?

Basically had eliminated Nebraska by the time Frost showed up. He was also very injury prone as many forget. So we didn’t make much of an effort because it was a bit of a waste of time.

I can see the logic behind moving on to other QBs in the 2019 class. What I don’t think is excusable is moving on so easily and then signing Luke Mccaffrey.

Didn’t McCaffrey have a pretty decent QBR at Rice this year?

He was a WR this year

This is where having a Recruiting Coordinator that is really good at his job is key. They talk about analytics and data, but there's also part of this that falls into the experience and intuition category.

Then there are times in Recruiting when you're completely reading the tea leaves correctly - and it blows up in your face. Those are frequently scenarios where someone generally makes a bad decision that goes completely against the grain. Just ask me, I'm in Talent Acquisition in real life.

I'll say this - they better have a plan and be willing to adjust on the fly based on what they see. This is where Mickey and/or Busch would be helpful to guide the new staff in the initial 1st years.

Justin's a good dude and runs a good program. He'd love if more of his guys were Huskers.
