James Franklin - next HC job betting futures (NU mention)

If Lea leaves Vanderbilt, I could definitely see Franklin going back. Although, I think by the end of the year is this the craziest coaching carousel we have ever seen. Think we see multiple other blue blood P4 jobs open, which forces lower end P4 and G6 jobs.

I've only been watching football since 2008, but I don't think I've ever seen this many openings this early and I think it's going to effect the rest of the guys on the hot seat. Everyone is want to join the race early.

In reality, I have to ask... Has anyone been hired mid-season?

If UCLA rips off a few more wins, they stay with the staff they have. They would welcome not spending a lot of money.

I think Franklin to VT or Arkansas is realistic. I don't think he'd want to go back to Vanderbilt.

UCLA just did the hire the interim schtick though.

I know all signs currently are primarily pointing to Rhule staying but would Franklin be the worst hire we could make if it all fell apart?

I get why people are against it, but I personally don’t think it’d be the end of the world. He’s a competent football coach, which has been a higher bar than some of our other coaches could clear.

I think you do the same thing as PSU has Rhule, like 3-5 on your list. First things first you make a couple of bigger names say no first because you just don’t know if they are interested at all until you ask i.e. Deboer, Kiffin, or even Cignetti. Then yes talk to Franklin.

From reading about him it sounds like two of Franklin's weaknesses are 1 - cozying up to boosters and 2 - the media.

It's a real tough ask for Nebraska because 1 & 2 are crucially important here. Now winning cures all, I understand, just saying that you really want 1 and 2 to be strengths for Nebraska.

If you're OSU you can suck at those as long as you're great at Xs and Os and recruiting.

Also in Severe's interview this MON (he's apparently a big PSU fan) he was saying that PSU is way easier there bc PSU gets first dibs on all of PA, all of NY and all of NJ. So I don't know how Franklin would like recruiting here.

So he’s Bo Pelini 2.0…….

I still wonder what Matt Campbell could do if his NIL was more than fruit gushers and individually wrapped almond joys.

Monkey Tits is a low bar
watching life of pi GIF

Campbell just gonna keep taking dudes who are not the level of player Nebraska is looking for and putting them in the NFL while we sit over here talking about how we can't be competing with Matt Campbell for our non-nfl dudes

To be fair Monkey Tits would be a better fit, but a worse coach for what is needed in the B1G.

Franklin would not be a good fit at Nebraska, although I don't think we have much to worry about with Slick Rick the Rhuler.
