im looking forward to Carter Nelson emerging and adding another couple of weapons in the portal (Ryan Williams)
Mario Williams seems like a good realistic portal target. Think what he is now is about what Barney’s potential is. Will need 1-2 more portal guys

Barney is explosive but I’m not sold on his long term expectations.

Seems to be a couple trick pony so far.
This is one of your worst takes. Just a horrendously bad take.

Barney is an absolute gamer. He turned the heads of everyone who attended NU practices about 5 min into his first session. The guy is legit.

He won't be a Terrell Owens type bc he doesn't have the size for it. But he's a gamer. He'll be a great player.

19 catches for 149 yards isn’t exactly amazing

Most of his catches are are jet sweeps or quick passes at the line of scrimmage(or 1-3 yards off).

They are taking advantage of his quickness but they don’t really seem to push the ball deep with him or run deep routes.

Both of his touchdowns have came off of designed run plays. Teams will start to scheme around that fairly easily.

I am less than enthused about McGuire corching receivers so far
Was arguing with buddies about him needing to move on. Has anybody in that room improved? They argued they havent got worse which is fair compared to how every position group somehow regressed over the last decade. My argument of course is that i can’t name one guy who has improved in any facet in the last year +. Run blocking blows, catching has only improved since the transfers (inherited trait) have arrived who still cant run block which is largely effort imo. Route running looks no different than if you asked any of us to go run a route. Throw in battling for 50/50 balls and its obvious he’s not there yet.

I still don’t understand the Bonner playing time yet.
The guys seems mostly useless and can’t block that well.
Neyor and Banks might stink at blocking but they can makes some plays.

The wr room looks like a lot of teams on the field. Just average.
If your wr coach isn’t an elite recruiter your WRs will be just average. Defenses and secondary play is so complex now a days they can slow/shit down WRs unless they are just freaks

We're definitely back! We are 5-1 but our message boarders are already firing the STs coach, the OC, the WRs coach, the RBs coach and potentially the OL coach (if his nephew wasn't the QB).

5-1 record but 5 coordinators/assistant coaches need to be fired. We are so fuckin back baby.

People really need to chill. McGuire is one of our top recruiters (was lead recruiter for Jacory Barney) and by all accounts did a great job getting a young receiver corps developing last year (TR FR Coleman and Lloyd made key contributions). This year he's integrating 2 transfer WRs into the starting lineup into a brand new passing system with an 19 yr old true freshman QB throwing to them. Takes time for timing, rhythm etc to develop. Oh and we're 5-1 through all the changes.

Yes, each position group has flaws but we can't go firing 5 coaches every season. Some times you just have to sit back and let the thing develop & suffer through the ups and downs. If Matt Rhule actually governed his staff personnel like message boarders wanted he'd be certifiably insane - he'd literally fire half his staff every 6 games. Sometimes you have to just chill out and let things develop.

(This is not an attack on you OP, just saying, firing every position group coach at every whim is not a serious way to run a CFB program)

Thats kinda my friends same argument. I’ll stay with my same argument, has anyone improved? Surely even an average coach could improve some of these guys route running.

I understand flaws, Im also evaluating the ups and downs. I think its fairly obvious, Foley has no place next year on this staff. Him being fired should be a foregone conclusion unless there is some miraculous turn around.

As far as McGuire is concerned, Im just not sold. I do agree continuity matters.

I’m all for firing people that need to be let go.
I don’t think firing McGuire has the impact people expect.

McGuire isn’t drawing up plays, schemes or anything like that. He’s being handed plays and told to coach he’s guys to know routes and how go run them. And if we are going to be fair to McGuire this season, his guys have been open a lot. We really seem to harp on the WRs mistakes on throws from Raiola while giving Raiola a free pass when when he misses open WRs, which he’s done a lot this season.

He's a true freshman, man. Ease up. Kid has been great for a true frosh. Stan Morgan was good as a true frosh, but obviously got lots better as he got seasons under his belt. Barney is very good and will only get better. Also bigger and stronger. Just enjoy having young talent that can play for us right out of high school. It's a breath of fresh air.

The WR room is significantly better than last year. The WR room last year sucked though.

Hard to know. The only receivers seeing the majority of snaps didn’t play for Nebraska last season.

Bullock is a good blocker and Lloyd can catch and run. 🤷🏿‍♂️

probably the most concerning thing with Mcguire is we have 2.5 more years of Dylan Raiola and our WR crooting is some local white kids and Mozee, who we got because we hired his dad. We should be signing some actual dudes at wideout this year, I'm pining for the days of Mickey Joseph over here.
