Holgerson seemed like a home run hire at the time…. But then again so did scotch fraud at the time… uggghhhh hopefully we look back and say Holgerson wasn’t a repeat of that and this season was just a learning curve for the players getting used to his system.
Dana seems like an old dude who's past his prime and is just riding it out until retirement.

this offense is boring and simple

I'm starting to lean to what @ChocaEgg and others have said that we are probably seeing what Rhule wants run vs what Holgo or even JoBu would run.

Holgs is showing why he got hired at Memphis
His offensive scheme is dead

Honestly is Holgorsen any better?

The offense has not been very good this year.
Also the problem is (that really hit me tonight) is that Rhule needs elite coordinators possibly more than any other P2 HC out there. Actually not possibly.

Rhule has a horrendous feel for gameflow and he butt puckers at every crucial decision point.

Rhule is one hell of a great CEO. But everything about gameday coaching he needs handled by a smarter OC/DC. This is why he puckers at 4th & 1s on the goal line. Why he fucks up penalty accepts sometimes (like the Xpt penalty tonight)

Rhule needs a Phil Parker/Brent Venables type DC and whoever the equivalent of those guys would be for OC.

It's been super disappointing. All of the things I thought he'd accel at he's almost been disappointing on all of them.

Very surprising. I thought we were getting a top 5 playcaller but honestly he is really on the downside of his career. We almost need a hotshot younger guy who has some fresh ideas/concepts. Dana's got nothing fresh anymore, I'm sorry.

I think the reality is what we already knew. This air-raid shit (or any amalgamation of) doesn’t work in the SEC and B1G unless you have a very elite QB who can run and pass. Somebody with size and physicality that can take it to a defense, but can also beat you with his arm. Cam Newton, Josh Allen, Pat Mahomes, Lamar Jackson etc… And, of course, you also need an elite defense which is another conversation.

But the better path is to being elite is through the trenches and the players around your QB. You don’t necessarily need an elite QB to win in this league, if you can put the right team around him. Michigan, Georgia, Alabama and OSU have shown us this but for whatever reason very few others can replicate their success.

None of these QBs are will ever be considered great. Several don’t have any pro career whatsoever to speak of. They’re all “good” QBs but none of them are great by anny means. Other than that, what do they have in common? They had amazing teams around them.

Moral of the story… Having an “all world” QB shouldn’t be the goal. It should be pursued and embraced when you have one, but the number one priority should be to build a team around your QB.

I hate saying it but… Cockeye and Kuck Ferntz have the blueprint, they’re just too gay and retarded to implement it effectively. Nobody (talent wise) wants to play for those losers. But they have the right formula IMO.

Rant over./
