I'm not saying that Mickey is getting the job, but if he does...what we have seen so far is what him getting the job would look like.

SF fired MJ named interim.
Positive player reception.
Get slapped by OU. (that was always gonna happen)
Fire the DC.
Bye week for adjustments and refocus.
Win with adversity against IU. Not a great game but plenty to point to as improvements.
Go on the road and beat Rutgers with continued improvement. Momentum and positivity builds.

Basically MJ is following a possible script that ends with him getting the job. If he's gonna do it....it will be with wins early in his time in charge. The decision will go against him 100% if he loses to Indiana or Rutgers....so last week's win keeps his chances alive. He's at the craps table and still has the dice. Can he keep rolling the number he needs?

Mickey's not getting the job

I don't think he will either, but I just think that if he did that what we have seen so far is exactly what it would look like. Identical. I really don't think he could have done anything better so far.
Yeah I hear you. It's like the old video game Frogger, he has to make the exact perfect move at the exact perfect time, a bunch of times in a row, to pull off a miracle run that ends with him getting the job. So far he's made the right moves.

While he's highly unlikely to be HC, NU would be extremely lucky to maintain him as Assistant HC.

He has the right balance of positive energy with kick you in the ass accountability. The team, including its best players, seem to respond well to it. That and he's a dominant recruiter.

He's doing a hell of a job in holding things together despite the shitshow cards he was given by his idiot predecessor.

I agree & I'll be loving things if we beat Rutgers.

Problem for Mickey is we have that Michigan away game on the calendar. That will be an absolute bloodbath and no matter what you think about Mickey, a 59-7 blowout on national TV won't look good. That will be the result of that game and there's nothing we can do about it.

Mickey's job is to create as much positive vibes around that Michigan game, before and after. That will be a challenge. We probably had a better chance of beating Wisconsin WITH Chryst than without. If he can get the team to come back with a vengeance after the UM beating, he might stand a chance.

I love the scenario where Mickey rallies is to 7-5. But unfortunately, our talent level + injuries + lack of depth will make that impossible. I expect us to beat Rutgers but unfortunately the reality will set in for those later season games. It's outside of Mickey's control BUT will have people saying "we need a complete reset" etc.

You have to give Mickey a serious look if he can get the win total to 7 games. Sweep October, and win 2 out of 4 against our tougher opponents in November. Actually, if he can win 6 and get to a bowl game, that will be nothing short of a miracle considering how this team started out ..

Bring on Vance as DC, keep Busch, Applewhite, and Fisher .. and you have the recipe for a really nice staff with some good recruiters .;.;. we could do a lot worse than a Joseph hire in that scenerio. Worst case, I absolutely hope Mickey is retained as an Assistant if he doesn't get the HC job.

I don't care what it takes, you have to keep Mickey on staff. Dude is keeping the recruiting class together and would be a key guy in preventing attrition in the off-season.

There’s a reason why Wisconsin fired Chryst when they did. I don’t buy the “so they can keep Leonhard” BS
They want to put the full court press on Liepold before Nebraska does.
They envision a Liepold/Leonhard union to take them to the next level as a program
Sadly for us, this is a much better situation for Liepold.

They could have done that without firing Chryst

Things are going to get interesting going into the bye week after we win the next two.
If we win the next two I'll genuinely be more hyped on the Huskers than any point since early 2010 haha. It's already so fun to root for a great leader like Mickey leading a squad that suddenly feels like a ragtag bunch of underdogs. Hard to believe I was trying to muster the strength to keep rooting for a complete dud like Frost 3 weeks ago.

Auburn comes to mind. They staged a damn coup to get Malzahn out of there and try to make Kevin Steele HC. Those fuckers are crazy

Auburn fans, alums, and boosters are a different level of crazy. Malzahn literally had Auburn ranked in the top 10 every season he was there.

They then ran Bo Nix out of town. That kid was Mr. Auburn. He was a 3rd generation Auburn Tiger. He attended every game growing up. His family had season tickets to every Auburn sporting event... and he was actually a good player.

He is potentially going to finish his college career with 11,000 total yards and 100 total TDs.

Auburn had to settle on Bryan Harsin because no other good coach wanted to deal with that shitshow.
